A friend's student is getting some data for his dissertation. If you have some time, give his survey a go!

Gorgeous, floating Jackie-Os in the cafeteria, and every student is feasting. The spread is beautiful. Apples, candied apples, appled candy, candied whiskey, apple fritters, anything you could ever want.

You know, it seemed like a fun idea at the time. I still think it does!

Yeah ok, I think Prisma is pretty cool. Nice way to create a cohesive look for folks making digital games and interactive fiction I think. Easier than Photoshopping anyway...

Lately I've been obsessing more and more with these old Choose Your Own Adventure books with stats and character sheets. Why hasn't stuff like this carried over to PDF.

Such an amazing space for design.

Been wandering around a bunch lately as I've been on vacation. The vacation paired with the release of Pokemon Go. It's a neat thing to witness for a simple reason - it makes the phone into a bridge.

For the most part every app, phone, massively multiplayer, or computer mediated communication tool is made for one person to handle at one time. However, Pokemon go manages to bridge the whole parent / child / device triad.

"Dad went to the store and caught you a ____. And we got bunch of pokeballs."

And that device manages to hold all these things that person did out in the world. If you hand off the device it's an entry into your world. While its one person and one device we see a glimmer of something more.

Sat down and played through this today. It has been far too long since I really tried one of the endless quest or CYOA books. Such a strange and wonderful time.

Been playing a bunch of games over the past few months. Been searching for ...something. During my proposal defense, my committee felt that my proposed experiment might not produce the kind of results that would help my career. That the experiment meant to critique "good enough" in design wasn't "good enough."

So I've been wandering around buying and playing games thinking about what "good enough" really means in terms of design. I still don't know if I know but my experiment design has been changing a whole lot.

And I've gotten to play a lot of games I wouldn't normally.

I don't know why but I bought a bunch of DCC stuff yesterday. It all started with the peril on the purple planet and sort of blossomed from there. I don't know what it was about this adventure but it scratched some sort of Star Frontiers itch.

This came in the mail today. I have always been a sucker for zine culture and the various things around it. Between this and TWERPS and a smattering of old half forgotten zines off in a box somewhere, there's some fun to be had.

Someone should bring some zines back. I miss getting mail.
