Australian operator Telstra announced that it has established and opened the world’s first 5G network in the country.
This historic 5G network is located at the 5G Innovation Center in South Port, Queensland, on the east coast of Australia. It uses the 5G Modem but does not directly provide 5G networks. Instead, it uses Wi-Fi hotspots to convert and open.
The Australian Telecom said that the speed of this 5G network is up to 3Gbps, which means it can transmit 375MB of data per second.
At the same time, Australian Telecom also demonstrated a 5G-connected car, which was the first time in Australia.
However, now there is no 5G mobile phone or 5G tablet in the world, plus the limitations of the Wi-Fi hotspot itself, can only run at the 4G speed level.
The actual measurement shows that the speed of these 5G Wi-Fi hotspots is limited to around 100Mbps.
Of course, speed is not critical, and Australian Telecom hopes to attract public attention to 5G and prepare for future popularization. At the same time, it can also take the opportunity to conduct some relevant tests and verifications.
At present, the entire industry is rushing to formulate the final 5G standard, which is expected to be completed in September of this year. The handsets supporting 5G will be launched in the second half of 2019.
