Here's the final composite from the lunar eclipse, last night. It's not exactly what I wanted, but I think it turned out OK. You can see the first half of the cycle, from full moon to near complete eclipse. To the right of the red moon you can see the blue star Spica.

For high definition, visit this photo on 500px:

The night started off crystal clear and I set up a remote release on an automatic timer. This was gonna be easy. Then the clouds moved in. I took it off the timer and had to take shots in cloud breaks. Even those shots were slightly hazed by light clouds in-between.

By 2:21 AM the eclipse was almost at its mid-point. The clouds grew thick, and my patience thin. I decided to call it a night and just be satisfied with the first half of the cycle.

I was reminded, today, of a quote often referenced on the internet as have being said by Albert Einstein. After a little research, I have discovered that it was not, in fact, a quote from Einstein. That does not, however, diminish the power and truth of the statement.

After thinking about it, I felt compelled to expand upon it in the following image/quote.

More About Me

Originally from Pennsylvania, I moved to San Diego while serving 5 years in the U.S. Navy. It was a trip to the Grand Canyon that sparked what would be a career in photography. Upon seeing the magnificent view, I thought to myself "I want to share this scene with everyone that can't be here themselves." A couple of weeks later I bought my first dSLR camera, and my journey in photography began.

Photography has been a powerful tool in helping me see life for its beauty. I see our workshops as a chance to help others see the beauty in life and to share it with the world. It's a thrill for me to see the excitement in someone's face when they've taken a great image.

Nick Chill PhotographyFor me, photography is more than just an art form. It is an extension of my inner, spiritual journey. A practice of seeing the world for more than the physical forms that surround us. To experience and feel the energy that connects us all. When I shoot, it comes from a place of feeling. Of experiencing the scene deep inside my soul.

I don't have a story to tell, a message for my viewers, or a predetermined pattern for drawing you in. Instead, I have captured a moment that has permeated my being and I attempt to transfer that energy to my audience. Not to gain acclaim or fame, but because the world is more beautiful when you learn to feel the energy of life.
