mostly @photographers...

ever reverse image search your pictures?

don't!

i've been emailing people who aren't honoring the creative commons attribute-noncommercial license (on my flickr photos) properly all night...based on just two photos.  I think I'm going to remain in bliss about the improper usages (or not) of the rest!

how am i just hearing about this?

http://www.agner.org/optimize/blog/read.php?i=49

i''ll horribly summarize:  intel makes some of the best and most widely used compiler and libraries that exist.  they are used in tons of compiled installers.  the catch: they unfairly optimize for genuine intel products.

they finally have a notice on their website, but it isn't incredibly obvious and isn't the fix the settlement after the court case with AMD demanded.

the obvious issue is that processor shouldn't matter -- instruction set should:

if (this.processor supports SSE){use sse code} else {use non sse methods}

instead, the code looks like this:

if(this.processor is genuine intel){use best instruction set method} else {use the least optimized code}

in 2012, they did comply with some court order and offer refunds to those interested (misinformed purchasers who expected an impartial compiler/libraries).  not enough.

still, this would be acceptable if the product was billed as an intel exclusive or they were making use of things competitors couldn't offer.  it isn't (in this case).

Agner (at the link, who has done MUCH research on the topic) claims that we need to get glibc (a rival compiler) and it's libraries properly optimized.  Since that is above my head, I thought getting this dirty practice exposed a few people at a time (the extent of my reach) would have to be my contribution.

Fast Emperor's Mustache...that is far better!

Wonder where I got "do'taloc" from?  Maybe just made it up.  Boo...I've been claiming it was Klingon for years!

I do remember qoq...i must have looked up "robot" in Klingon at some point and realized that it wasn't dotaloc...I think I shrugged it off as bad web-reference or something.  Still sure that I was right.

Introduction
I grew up in North Carolina.  I have lived in Wilmington, Charlotte, and Rutherfordton.  I attended Union Mills Middle School and RS Central High School.  I joined the Army just after high school and was a NBC Operations Specialist while in.  I got out and married my wife, Melissa (Justice) in December of 2003.  We had been together since high school.  I attended UNCA and got my BS in Computer Science (Information Systems emphasis) while Melissa majored in Literature and got her teaching license.  After graduating together in December of 2007, we moved to Waterbury, CT and are both enjoying life here for now.

wanted a little more of this place, but our buffet back home has better food and value. the food wasn't bad, but the orange chicken came meat only...so we had to buy pork fried rice. the quantity for sides was great, though. all the meat in my house special was pretty mundane. the veggies were good. the pork fried rice wasn't as good as I'd hoped.

nice Asian fusion restaurant. went with some friends looking for slightly less expensive food and landed at a great spot. great, laid back, atmosphere and we all enjoyed our choices. I had my first Tom yum and shall have it again. healthy portion and great contents. the broth was a little more notable than any individual component, but very enjoyable. stop in!

this place was great. an impatient worker rushed us a little and rubbed my wife the wrong way, but the great food and fast service totally made it worth it. if you want food quickly, and want awesome fried fish...don't go anywhere else. we didnt have room for ice cream.
