My column this week is about the passing of my mother and the importance of her print book collection.
A death in the family settles an internal argument on the value of print books in the modern world.

Some of the happiest memories of my childhood are those moments when I was on my way to the library to return books and get some new ones. It was just few blocks away, short walk, right in the first floor of a twelves storey Soviet block of flats. It was a small library, but for a kid that I was it seemed like an endless resources, always more new books than I could read. I would put my return books on the table gently, saying last good bye to these adventures. The library lady would smile, she knew me. All of them knew me. I was that weird kid, the only one in the classroom eagerly looking forward to summer read list and rushing to library to find them. I would be done in  month. When not from a list, I would spent up to an hour browsing through books, enjoying the activity itself, selecting carefully like looking for the most ripe fruit on the market stall.
This year I gave in and bought a Kindle. Nomadic lifestyle is hardly compatible with hardcovers. I love it, I do love technology. But it is more of a compromise for now, until I have the dream home with giant library as its core center.

Lovely writing, Nick.

My column this week on strippers selling one-on-one shows on snapchat for snapcash.
The mobile app has become a popular platform for X-rated photos, videos and personalized shows, often sold on the sly to avoid violating rules.

My column this week is a profile on Jerome Jarre, "The Vine Guy" and why he's so loved by his teenage fans.
Mention Jerome Jarre (“that French guy”) to typical teenagers today, and they will know exactly which French guy you are talking about.

2014: The Year of the Hack.
2015: The Year of the Phone Call.
My column on what's happening in Hollywood after the Sony Hacks.
Sony’s devastating hack, as well as cyberattacks on big companies like Home Depot and JPMorgan Chase earn 2014 in tech’s moniker.

Since when are phonecalls untapable? And I mean, really, what can be kept secret today? Wires? Nude selfies? Emails? Any kind of personal data? Any kind of digital data at all? Encryption might give you a slight chance for privacy, but then again- the last years have shown that secrecy is dead. You might want to apply techniques as in FF Coppola's "The Conversation" (1974). Walking around a fountain, in public, mumbling. But in the end, your apartment is CCTV-ed. Privacy is over, as long as you live digital. +Nick Bilton

My column this week looks at how people who intend to perform justice online can sometimes end up as part of a caustic mob. “Be careful when you fight the monsters, lest you become one.”
As more people discover what it’s like to be on the receiving end of a caustic online mob, public shaming is replaced by empathy.

At what age should your kids be allowed their own social media accounts? My column offers an answer to that question.
When you break it down, there are essentially three social media doors that you can unlock for a child.

My column this week on why I've become obsessed with SnapChat Stories. Along with lots of excitable teenagers. (Featuring a video with +Casey Neistat)
Imagine a short and very personal TV show: directed, edited and starring you. It lasts 24 hours and then — poof! — it’s gone.

Lyf'ts tacky cutesy branding is hurting it in the war with Uber.
Lyft, the ride-sharing service, comes up with fuzzy, hokey ideas when all most customers want is a quick, safe ride.
