4 Marketing Lessons From the Creator Movement

Video, podcasting, and visual content is erupting this year. We're seeing major agencies pouring their resources into jumping on this trend, with even groups like +Copyblogger openly talking about podcasting being the largest social media investment they are taking this year.

Why is it so big? For two reasons: consumers are actively connecting with more dynamic forms of content far more heavily than traditional forms, and the technology has finally caught up to where these forms of content can be produced easily and with sufficient quality to make them worth watching.

So how can you be more effective in creating dynamic content? Here are some pointers coming to us from +Jay Baer:

Authenticity Is Foundational. This isn't to tap into the overused content marketing buzzword. This is to drive home the fact that being real and being relatable will trump being polished. In other words, you don't have to have a fancy set and skillful editing, you just have to be engaging, beneficial, and able to connect with your audience.

Focus On Earning Trust. This really needs to be heard. So many marketers today still focus on earning traffic over earning trust. While that has worked in the past, trust is becoming increasingly important as the web is saturated with questionable content. If you want an audience that converts, you need an audience that trusts.

Build A Sense Of Community. People want to feel like they are part of something. Finding creative ways to bring your audience into your content is a proven method of developing loyalty and cultivating advocates. Live interaction mediums such as video and podcasting create a unique environment for this, even as simple as highlighting a community member.

Don't sweat it +Nick Allen, they were for all of us at one time or another. I still call them fonts more than typefaces just because it's more known for my non-designer clients.
