Serendipity at SXSW (and AirBnB ;) led me to stay at Peggy's house and learned of her awesome meaningful Conversations with Afgan Women
project - http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/598128522/gathering-strength-conversations-with-afghan-women
Please show your support of women in Afganistan. Here's from her email:
Two years and two months ago I returned from my second trip
to Afghanistan and began processing the photographs and
transcribing the interviews I conducted there. Now, after a year of
writing and seven months of editing, my book, Gathering Strength:
Conversations with Afghan Women is nearing completion.
It's been a long journey through uncharted (by me) waters as
I explored publication options. Creating my own company, Pomegranate
Grove Press, allows me to keep control of the material, to avoid spin
that would place the book into any camp across the political spectrum,
and enable me to release the book as soon as it is ready.
It's also been an expensive journey. Both of my Afghan trips
have been mostly self-funded and I have devoted my full time
efforts to this book since my return. I believe that the women's stories
and the messages it contains are worthy of top notch editing and a large
audience, neither of which come cheap. I've started a fundraising drive
on Kickstarter to help put the book into production. This Kickstarter
project, if successful (no funds are collected if the project
doesn't reach its goal), will pay only for necessary costs of producing
and promoting the book.
I would be very grateful for your support, both by donation
(and claiming a reward) and also by forwarding this letter to
others who might be interested. Every little bit helps. The support of
my friends and colleagues is itself a valuable gift.http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/598128522/gathering-strength-conversations-with-afghan-women
