Formal work on the Realms of Chirak, 2nd Edition has begun
I am ready to tackle it. I feel my familiarity with 5E rules is reaching a comfortable point, and the ease with which one can design monster and NPC stat blocks is greatly appreciated. Realms of Chirak 2nd edition will be designed initially for use with D&D...

Vumaskans, the shrewd merchants and rogues of Pergerron (D&D 5E and S&W)
Since I've been getting back in to Swords & Wizardy lately I think I'll start dual-statting my Pergerron entries for both D&D 5E and S&W Complete. After much procrastination I have finally written some details up on the vumaskans of Pergerron....a mercantil...

Good read and I pretty much agree. On item 4 however I have to point out that Matt Finch's old school primer is heavily dependent on going back toa time period roughly around 1974-1975, when the game consisted of three books. If there's a thief class in play you haven't gone far enough. This is very small sliver of gaming existence that the OSR primer refers to, usually. Also, attribute checks as an actual mechanic in AD&D didn't even appear until some later game supplements (Book of Lairs was the first I saw it in). The idea was pretty intuitive and I think everyone used the mechanic of "roll under your stat" in some fashion as houserules....but the game itself didn't really officially spell it out until a couple years after the PHB and DMG were released.

....So this is a long-winded way of saying that if the OSR Primer seems weird in its conceptual space, then its because you haven't gone back far enough in time.
So, there was a little bit of an debate started in the comments of +Stan Shinn's posts about 5e. He basically asks the question "Is D&D 5e old school?" Of course, that started the typical "Yes, it is - No, it isn't - Just wha...

Is D&D 5E Good for the OSR Economy?
I have a theory (that lacks support beyond the usual anecdotes) that the ease with which D&D 5E allows one to adapt older edition modules and content to the current rules system may in fact be promoting more expansion and growth among OSR games, as well as ...

Who Knew??? GURPS Mars Attacks is a thing!!!!
It's one of those things you'd never imagine was possible but, once presented, seems hard to fathom how we went so long without it. GURPS is getting a new sourcebook, and it's actually going to be a print product: GURPS Mars Attacks , based on the Topps car...

Best comic shop in Albuquerque, I moved over here after two other bad experiences locally. They keep great stock and have an excellent range of back issues, orders are in every week and they offer a nice discount for subscriptions. The staff has been running this store for ages....and they know their stuff. Good people.
