I was in the Hoboken train crash on September 29th, 2016. Although not physically injured I still feel traumatized and mentally exhausted after the whole ordeal. I called the Hotel Pennsylvania in order to cancel my reservation for the next day (Friday September 30th, 2016). They stated that I would have had to be physically injured and they would require a doctor's note to cancel. Therefore, they denied my request.
Did they refuse to cancel for people who survived 9/11?
Hotel Pennsylvania is rude, uncaring, and greedy. I shall never stay there again and I hope you don't either, because there is something sinister there when they can't cut a disaster victim a break :(

This is literally the WORST hotel I have ever stayed in. My entire trip this past weekend was a disaster and I would encourage anyone to avoid this hotel at all cost. To start, once I arrived to check-in I had to wait in a long line for 1.5 hours! The line was almost touching the door and there were only 4 people behind the desk working. When I finally checked in I was given the wrong room! I booked a king bed suite and was given a room with two twin beds. So I had to go back down stairs to get this figured out. The room I eventually got was dirty and outdated, this is true for allll of their rooms. The walls are so thin you can here all of the random screaming & crying kids at all hours of the day. My advice is pay the extra money for a REAL hotel and avoid this mess. The only good thing about my stay was the check out line being a lot shorter. That still took 20 minutes.

I admit, I got scared reading the online reviews but don't believe everything you read. #1786, This room was clean and spacious. The beds were comfortable, AC works, great location. Housekeeping did a good job keeping our room fresh daily. Would stay again in a NY minute!

Nice stay at never sleeping city Hotel Pennsylvania New York is a Nice place to stay at never sleeping area of city. It's a old property with moderate maintenance. It's good to stay here to see Manhattan in Night. You can walk around and experience never sleeping city. It's not a great accommodation but good to stay and enjoy New York.

The first problem was with the service desk, I was met in anger by a fire red/ orange haired woman who was very rude. I was to already have the hotel room paid for because I was on travel for work and instead of helping me she spoke down like I was a idiot like I was supposed to know all their hotel policies. She needs a attitude check or to be in a position that does not deal with the general public. I ended dealing with another rep. and the Manager who were more helpful and a lot better to deal with. After about a hour of dealing with getting the room I was excited to finally relax. What I was greeted by was a very dated and almost just felt dirty room. Things were broken, the TV was old, and the bath room was in disarray. I got over the room because I was barley in it but the rudeness of the woman at the desk was beyond alright. I would have gave the rating 2.5 - 3 stars but due to that one employee acting in that manor I give this place a one. Spend a little extra cash and go somewhere better.

I have to be honest the room we were given wasn't great at the beginning. We were told on arrival there was only one room booked under our name. We spent Thursday getting rooms sorted and only for Maria one of the staff at hotel reception and the nicest person we met. She got us moved up to the 12 floor from number 2 free of charge. Such an improvement. The view from one of our rooms was fantastic.

Convenience. That is what I like about this Hotel. Sometimes you can also get a better rate here than other places in midtown Manhattan. But I have also checked rates on dates and it was just too expensive. This is not a "nice" hotel. It is a bed to sleep in and hot water. Its just passable. But it is convenient to Penn Station. When I fly into JFK or Newark I can take the airtrain to the local commuter train station (JFK its Jamaica Station, Newark its Newark Liberty station ) Then when I arrive at Penn Station NYC, I walk across the street and I'm there.

Quite frankly-- I would recommend 0 stars if possible. Horrible customer service and business ethics. I had a reservation booked for a professional medical conference that was also being held at their hotel. The conference was cancelled and we were informed the reservation was booked for a non-refundable room. I contacted the hotel, made them aware that the conference being held at their hotel was cancelled and we would no longer be coming to New York and politely asked for a date change-- not a refund-- date change for a future date as we would be in New York in March... so therefore would book with them, for a longer duration and also upgrading our room (so more profit for them in the end). They denied this request and are charging us for the full reservation which was over $850.00 even though we will not be arriving or using the room. I can understand a denial in refund, which is why we didn't request a refund... but being unable to change it to a future date is horrible customer service in my opinion.

This Hotel is like 800 years old. There is no service at all. It is very dirty and gross. The mattresses are old and sagging like crazy. Rooms are super small. I ratter spend extra money and get a better room in a better place . The double bed is smaller then a regular queen size bed. Oh btw if you book online once you get here they charge you an extra 25 $ per night for taxes ,right when you check in.
