Although the service is good the food we had was so disappointing. We had visited because of a hen do and we arranged dinner at the hotel in the basement room while having a murder mystery evening. The food was supposed to be ready for 8.45 but didn't appear till 9.15 with no apologies and the pork cheek dish was cold and none existent. There was no vegetables and the waitress seemed uninterested. They didn't offer us any drinks to buy so we just drunk our own instead. The rooms were nice although a bit run down they served the purpose of a girly weekend . The shower was either freezing cold, had no hot water even coming out the taps or so hot it burnt one of the girls. When asked for an iron the guy from reception bought it up super fast which was one good thing. They also made some chips at 1 am as a midnight snack and only cost £2.50. I feel this place has really too much on their plate with guests. They had a hen do and other guests all at once and too many people to cater for . It's a shame as it's a beautiful location and has great potential. It just really needs and overall makeover and better management.

From the start this was not a good experience. My girlfriend tried to book online and was unable. She phoned and spoke to the manager who quoted a figure for two weekend nights that where reasonable compared to other bed and breakfast's in the area, as this is only a B&B despite what the advert says. On arriving at 2200 Friday night we where told the price quoted was for one night only....knowing that at that time of night we wouldn't be able to get a room in another hotel. The manager who my girlfriend booked with refused to talk to use, leaving us to pay double what we had been quoted. Just be careful if booking over the phone and have a backup plan if attending late at night! This has been reported to the Advertising Agency who have taken action!

Oh, the tea and honey! :) This is the first thought that comes to my mind when I think of my brief stay at the New Steine Hotel in Brighton. As a tea lover, I always appreciate a superb cup of excellent tea and good quality honey. I enjoyed my tea comfortably sat by the window, delighted by a gorgeous sea view in the morning, in a nicely set breakfast room. The delicious, good quality vegetarian full English breakfast was the perfect choice. In my short stay at the New Steine during a writing trip to the lovely and friendly city of Brighton I was surprisingly pampered with a room upgrade, which was a marvellous thing at the end of a long day. After a smooth and fast online booking process I arrived at the hotel in the evening to be welcomed by two trainees who did everything to show their willingness to help in the check-in process. I was showed to my room and wished a good night. The quality, style, and cleanliness of the room, as well as the little details and art work on the wall contributed to a relaxed and comfortable stay, and a restful good night sleep. All in all, I liked and appreciated the atmosphere and friendliness at the New Steine. Excellent value for money. I would like to especially thank Kes and Stephan for their help and friendliness. I hope to see you again in my next stay at the New Steine when I go back to Brighton. :) -Susan Fourtané

On the first evening we arrived (26 January), someone entered our room whilst we were out and stole our camera, SD cards, spare battery, charging cables, and camera bag. The manager informed me that there are no CCTV cameras in the hotel and suggested that I should file a police report in order to make a claim against my insurance. Sadly, my excess (deductible) is rather high, so it isn't worth making a claim for £50 above my excess. As for the room, it was more like a 3 star hotel with chips on the toilet seat and in the shower, peeling veneer on the bed, and a broken window latch. With the theft of my camera, and waiting for someone else to enter my room and steal the rest of my stuff, it is zero stars.

We just came back from a one night stay for Valentine’s and loved the New Steine. Being Valentine’s, we wanted to treat our self to a nice a boutique hotel and found it ticked all the boxes. Our room was a lovely boutique room with all the luxury toiletries you expect from a boutique hotel including dental rinse. The bed was comfortable and the art work was very funky. We had dinner in their restaurant, we had booked the diner package, the food was delicious and very French. We both had the same, Duck foiegras to start which was just as good as the one we had in France during our last visit if not better followed by the sea bass with a pastis sauce which we both thought went really well with the fish. Sometimes, boutique places tend to exaggerate when it comes to drinks so we were haply surprised by the selection and prices of wines. The hotel uses a lot of local produce so at breakfast the food was equally good. On check out, we were offered to leave our luggage which again is a great service as the weather was nice and sunny so we wanted to go for a long walk on the beach front. All in all, we would definitely go back and do not hesitate to recommend this little boutique hotel in Brighton, a real hidden gem.
