How does that make you feel?
What if you're doing a speaking engagement or producing a concert and half the audience have their arms raised.
They're not asking a question or giving high fives, they're live streaming your presentation to their Twitter stream.

Usually, we encourage people to share on Twitter at talks and show. Creating special hashtags like #RayBunch  has become a must in production preparation.

On a personal level, should we just accept when we leave our home we forget any idea that we travel in a privacy bubble?

As for people doing the live streaming, if you thought butt dials and impulsive Facebook updates were a problem, live sharing is just that -live! There's no edit button.

We'll be discussing the repercussion of live streaming apps - their pros, cons and their inevitable adoption by Brands.

Is the slogan, “the customer always right, wrong?”
When Harry Selfridge said this in 1909, it was revolutionary and the philosophy was instrumental in building his retail empire.

But like the Macy’s Santa (Miracle on 34th St.) who suggested customers go to the competition if the goods can’t be found in store, it became general retail practice. It lost its competitive advantage when every store adopted it.

Customers became savvy and soon “gaming” the system became part of shopping as a "sport".
Can you be committed to excellent customer/client service and not believe your clients are "King"?

Do we do them, ourselves and our employees a disservice by sticking to this tired old slogan?

Why Good Unique Content Needs to Die - Whiteboard Friday

This is packed with great information about how Google ranks SERP worthy content and advice as to how to create it.

In short, it has to be 10 times better than anything that can be found in the search results today.

How do you do that?
Ask yourself these questions;

1. What questions are being asked and answered by these search results?

2. What sort of user experience is provided? I look at this in terms of speed, in terms of mobile friendliness, in terms of rendering, in terms of layout and design quality, in terms of what's required from the user to be able to get the information? Is it all right there, or do I need to click? Am I having trouble finding things?

3. What's the detail and thoroughness of the information that's actually provided? Is it lacking? Is it great?

4. What about use of visuals? Visual content can often take best in class all the way up to 10x if it's done right. So I might check out the use of visuals.

5. The quality of the writing.

6. I'm going to look at information and data elements. Where are they pulling from? What are their sources? What's the quality of that stuff? What types of information is there? What types of information is missing?

If we're talking about creating "good, unique content" and are hoping for it to rank in competitive SERPs, we're not setting the right bar. In today's Whiteboard Friday, Rand shows us what we should be going for instead.

The first thing you should know is they're more +Snapchat than +YouTube and they integrate seamlessly with Twitter.

They're live meaning in the case of Meerkat, the video disappears as soon as you stop recording.
In the case of Periscope, you have 24 hours to view the recording before it's gone.

12 Social Sharing Tips from the Lunch Bunch.
This Week in Marketing includes a summary of Episode 79 of the #RayBunch  Show Is Sharing Really Caring? (

Here's 12 takeaways from the show:

1. Sharing is “giving”. 
You're giving your time to research and share, even if you didn't create the post.

2. Sharing is good karma…mostly.  #reciprocity  

3. Show you care when you share.
Always acknowledge and credit your source.

4. Social sharing is about “manners”.
saying thank you, acknowledgment and reciprocating.

5. Reciprocation is important until it’s not.
Acknowledgment and reciprocation from the original content creator aren’t always important if the priority is to reach and help a targeted audience (tribe).

6. Share content from a network of influencers.
Be selective with what and whose content you share.

7. Share what will help your audience, not your ego.
It’s easy to be seduced by the attention given from “Influencers” who retweet your content. People who marketers look up to as influencers are unknown by the vast majority of our followers.

8. The content you share needs to be aligned to your business goals.

9. You can mix your personal sharing strategy with your professional one.
The media is called “social” after all.

10. The more focused your sharing, the more effective.
Instead of mass distributing content, being helpful is sharing content that can help a specific client or group.

11. Sharing the right content builds your reputation and trust.
At the end of the day, you share content to build your business.

12. Create relationships by sharing the “what” and the “why”.
Then "consummate" the relationship by supplying the “how”.
