I was walking along the beach in Sanur and stumbled upon...

Well, I wasn't quite sure what it was. I know what it looked like but it was out in the open, in what looked like a park in which there were several bar/restaurants and lots of street food hawkers. The smoke was wafting over the crowd, me included. Nah, couldn't be....

I think my culture has more hangups about death and dying than any other. Others seem more intent on the celebratory rituals.

This is indeed a funeral and in the foreground of the picture, on the pyre the body of the deceased is being reduced to ashes. Those ashes were later collected and taken away by the Holy Man who will scatter then in the sea.

In the background all of the artefacts of the procession are also being burnt.

Coffee Roaster

This woman is roasting Kopi Luwak in the mountains near Kintimani, Bali where the coffee beans are grown and consumed by Civets (Jungle Cats) before being recovered, cleaned and roasted.  The enzymes in the Civet's gut greatly reduces the bitterness of the coffee, hence its popularity.

Very interesting. I have seen some cultures do this with Elephants and Monkeys as well.

Prambanan Temple

This is a very large Hindu temple quite close to Yogyakarta.  Each tower is dedicated to one of the gods.  The three main towers are for the three principal gods of Brahma, Vishna and Shiva (Creator, Protector and Destroyer.)

Prambanan is a World Heritage site and a great deal of restoration work continues as there are dozens of smaller towers off the main platform that have collapsed since the complex was constructed more than 1,000 years ago.

Water Blessings at the Temple of the Holy Spring.

Locals line up to cleanse themselves of their sins. Each font deals with one of the sins, which are similar to the Seven Deadly Sins in other cultures.

Two of the fonts are used only to cleanse the dead before they are cremated and the final font banishes bad dreams.

The Temple was constructed in the 9th Century and used daily for these blessings. This was a particularly auspicious day, being the New Moon.
