A festival goer from the Sapan Tirtha Mela in Tokha, Kathmandu.

Legend has it that a villager from Tokha had a dream in which Siddha Pokhari promised to grant all the wishes of the inhabitants if they would come and take him away in a chariot. The villagers built one out of wood, and took Ganesh on a procession. But when they came to the Natheswor temple, the chariot wouldn't budge, so they left it there on the premises. The holy site was renamed as Sapana Tirtha, and ever since locals celebrate it as part of Bisket Jatra, the beginning of the Nepali New Year.

An excellent article about Nepal and the nation's changing state of affairs, particularly with regard to foreign remittances and the economy.
Remittances have been responsible for poverty reduction, increase in foreign exchange reserves, and caused dependency.
