Today was 'do some sanding before the skies open up and rain for a week straight' day.

Got in a bit of sanding today. I went from 80 grit up to 180 grit. I think this should be good enough to apply tung oil onto.

Teaching myself SketchUp - this was 10 minutes of playing around. I still have a lot to learn, but it's pretty fun so far.

Teaching myself SketchUp... I'm trying it out by mocking up a design I am planning, and one thing I noticed is I don't like my design in the dimensions that I originally chose. So, that's one good reason to use SketchUp it seems.

More progress on my #woodworking   #project  ! The #DIY  build of a #reclaimedwood  desk top. It's been a wild ride so far.

The reclaimed barnwood desk project continues - this time its all about the prep work for finishing.
When we left off last, the desk was still in fairly rough shape and needed a lot more work to get it to a state where it was almost ready to put the finishing touches on. To get to that state, I had to start with planing. A l...

Another build update!

A continuation of the 'reclaimed barnwood' woodworking project - building a desk - it's starting to take shape!

#woodworking   #maker   #DIY
Previously, I had ripped the boards to a smaller width, laid them out on the carcass to get a feel of how they would look, and established a game plan. Continuing on with the build it was time to start gluing the boards to th...

Next woodworking project is a go - the reclaimed barnwood desk!

Part one of many, my process of building a reclaimed barnwood desktop.
I've been really enjoying woodworking more and more lately, and in an effort to learn more skills, and practice things I already knew - I am tackling a desktop project. A friend of mine donated a lot of old barnwood to me, an...

Systainers are addictive. :)

Getting my tools organized, with the help of some #Tanos   #Systainer  boxes... and snagged a couple more #Bessey  clamps on the cheap today. Just need 2-3 more Systainers of various sizes and every tool will have a nice, organized home.

"I totally have enough clamps." - Said no woodworker ever.

I'm almost done with all the gluing, thankfully. Then the real fun stuff can start!

What I got up to last night...

Finally had some time to work a bit on the reclaimed barnwood desk project. I'll be gluing edging around the whole thing. One edge at a time.

Another "Better than IKEA" project - was a complete failure, but it's one way to learn.
A long time ago, I had purchased a couple of Ikea dimmer switch cords - because I wanted some variation on my pendant lighting in my room. (And I had a nifty set of Tardis patio lights that I wanted to dim down when I was usi...

Another project finished!

Here's the complete write-up of my quick woodworking / maker project - the freezer lid hook.
Sometimes you make things to improve how something works, other times you make things to fix something that isn't working the way it should. At my parents house, they have a very old 'deep freeze' unit that has a hinged lid. ...
