Helly
Back in the day, we didn’t have Facebook. There was no Twitter or Instagram, and even MySpace had yet to rise and fall. Instead we used to write blogs and forged our own social networks one link at a time. We would comment, and share memes and pictures, and...

"So, can you explain the situation to me in layman's terms?" "Well, Mr President, it's like this. We received a message three days ago broadcast on an extreme narrowband range around 452 MHz. It was picked up by several of our large radio telescopes and we ...

Story a day May - Day 3 "Everything must go"
The engineer looked at the figures and sighed. “The whole system’s overheating - it’s a runaway feedback loop.” “It’s a fine balance - look at S2 that completely melted and S4 that ended up freezing” “I know, but I was always fond of S3 - some of our best w...

Story a day May - Day 1
When Terry began scrolling through her phone, none of the photos she found were hers. She hit the home button and looked at the familiar wallpaper and icon layout which was the same as it ever was, but then again she had left it much the same as it was when...

The Art of Noise
As OU students much of our time is spent with our nose in a book, or as is more likely these days, looking at a screen. What about the times when this is not practical - how can you study when you are on a crowded train, stuck in traffic or walking the dog?...

Story a day May - day 4. The First Person
I think, therefore I am. At least, that’s what Rene Descartes said, and who am I to contradict him? So, I am aware that I am thinking but I suspect it’s more complex than that. There are processes happening automatically that I am not aware of, at least unt...

Story a day May - day 2. The Loan
"So, Jerry, let's just go over how the credit union works, so you're sure" Jerry shifted uncomfortably in his chair and nodded. "We agree how much you need and a repayment amount that you can afford, and then it just comes out of your pay at source so there...

Have you tried the Sunless Sea game set in the same place? Very atmospheric and it also ties in with your Fallen London character. http://youtu.be/WmuhWpp8fZw

We've been playing D&D 5e recently - it's very easy to get started with and the emphasis is on story telling rather than complex rules. You can download the basic rules for free and there are lots of resources available. I also remembered reading some articles on Boing Boing about introducing kids to RPGS such as this one http://boingboing.net/2011/03/16/i-turned-my-4-year-o.html - might be worth a try?

Thanks for the suggestion. I was under the impression that D & D had a more substantial buy-in cost than I was willing to risk. We may try a game this weekend.
