A recent article in the New York Times regarding new research into the demands of parenting sparked some interest online.

After sharing the article, I received a few questions on my thoughts about over-parenting and the rise of moms and/or dads opting to stay home. I figured a podcast would be a great way to share my thoughts with you!

In this week's podcast, I discuss:

→ The reasons many parents choose to stay at home
→ How advances in child development are changing the way we parent today
→ The role parental burnout plays in the choices parents are making

...and more!http://neildbrown.com/17-blog/podcast/is-it-okay-to-be-an-at-home-mom/

Burnout can leave parents feeling chronically fatigued which can lead to depression, anxiety, and illness. Being a parent doesn't mean that you don't take care of yourself anymore. In fact, you must put yourself as a priority too.

Are you always fighting with your teen? The good news is you aren’t alone and there is a way out. Instead of looking at how to fix your teen, look at changing your family dynamic.

Polarized parents are a common and unhealthy family dynamic. I discuss all this in my latest podcast. Parenting is a journey with lots of ups and downs and we must approach it with a growth mindset. It's a process of learning and growing so accept the challenge with a healthy attitude.

Parenting doesn't always paint a pretty picture, especially not a perfect one. If there is no such thing as perfect why do we put so much pressure on ourselves?

We all get angry, and most of us raise our voices sometimes. We may lecture ineffectively or punish our kids for doing something they didn’t know was wrong. We over-indulge and over-support or under-indulge and under-support. This is normal family life. Despite their parents’ human imperfections, kids can and do thrive.

Empowered parents should also empower their teenagers. Help your kids become more engaged within the family and within the community. How do you do this? Get them to lead certain family activities like game night or a family garage cleaning time. Involve them in the community by doing some volunteer work together.

In my last podcast, Janet from Missouri shared her frustrations for the upcoming holidays. I discussed some tips on how you can get your family to cooperate and get them involved. Give it a listen!

Every family has their own #Thanksgiving tradition. It's a chance to get the family together and spend quality time. I would love to know how you spend yours. What's on the menu? Do you have activities planned? Is everyone involved in the planning?
