NSFW ... actually, "not safe at all". That's rather the point.

I have nothing to add.

Ooohh.  Pretty light bulbs....

Wow. Amazing. "Internet of Things" crap are huge gaping security holes. Who would have thought.

I maintain an application for bridging various non-Hue lighting systems to something that looks enough like a Hue that an Amazon Echo will still control them. One thing I hadn't really worked on was colour support, so I picked up some cheap bulbs and a bridge. The kit is badged as an iSuper ...

Quoting THHGTTG: To summarise the summary of the summary: people are a problem.

While not surprising (the whole KS discussion disappearing last year seemed like the community sticking its head in the sand),  here is your bummer of the day:
This post has been sitting in my drafts folder for a year now. It has never been the right time to post this. I have always been worried about the backlash. I've skirted around talking about this issue publicly for some time, but not acknowledging the elephant in the room has eaten away at me a ...

The fact that perl complains that checkpatch invokes an outdated API makes me feel much better about my checkpatch failures.

Google recruiting are the best!  They've carefully identified me as "someone who has the potential to do well at Google" and want to interview me,  And they are so awesome that "our interviewers will be coming   to you!".  This "unique interview opportunity" is "taking place in Portland".
So if someone can just tell me which bus I catch to get from Sydney Australia to Portland (I guess they mean the one in Oregon), I'm totally there.

I think it would make much more sense to do your interview on a liveaboard on the Great Barrier Reef. I'll suggest that at work today; in that case I'd be happy to be one of the interviewers.

Spelling is not my thing.  In something I wrote today I used the word "palette" three times and used three different incorrect spellings.  Consistency is not my thing either ... sometimes.  Other times it is.

That's truly unpalettable.  Or something like that.

I occasionally receive emails with calendar attachments (.ics files) which I mostly ignore.  But I  recently became more interested in the possibilities and have been experimenting with the calendar on my Android phone.
I just imported an appointment which contained:
DTSTART;TZID="GMT-0700":20160309T143000
which clearly means that the event starts at 2:30pm in the GMT-7 timezone, which is 8:30 am for me (GMT+11).
So why did android calendar enter the appointment at 0:30???
Does it think I'm in the middle east somewhere? Or maybe it didn't know if I wanted it recorded as origin-time or local-time, so it picked the mid-point.

Thank you +Dave Chinner  for putting an escape character in https://lwn.net/Articles/663608/  It causes
https://github.com/teythoon/rss2maildir
to say
Can't process feed: PCDATA invalid Char value 27
and abort ... though as far as I can tell, the problem is in some library, not in rss2maildir itself....
Do I want to dig in to lots of 'go' code and figure out how to fix it, or would it be easier to create an rss to maildir tool from scratch :-?

It seems I did, but I've got not idea how. Regardless, it's an absolutely brilliant demonstration of the point I was making. :)

Hey, come work for SUSE - it is a great place to work... though when I say "place', I mean that metaphorically.  I work at home.  Or maybe I work "On the Internet".
Fortunately "The Internet" is big, so despite there being many corners that I wouldn't want to visit, it can still be a great place to work.

65 jobs.  All over the world.  Engineering to Marketing.  Want to work in Open Source?  SUSE is hiring.

Surely if I use "abs()" on a 64bit number in the kernel, then either it will work correctly or it will give a useful error.  After all, we aren't coding in assembler here, are we?  Oh wait....

On a 2-complement machine there are more negative values than positive, so it is impossible to implement abs() correctly. Just live with that. :-)

G+ suggests some communities I might like to join ....
There is "Atheism" with 12,738 members, or there is "Atheism" with 39,738 members.  Clearly Christians aren't the only ones who cannot agree on a single church to be members of.  At least we use different names for our churches ... mostly.
