Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a horrible, fatal muscle-wasting disease that mostly affects young boys. Hawken Miller is doing remarkably, and his story is worth reading. I've been doing work for CureDuchenne, the nonprofit his parents founded. They're funding pharmaceutical start-ups trying to find cures.

A wonderful piece by Casey Santos, a former NASA engineer who's now chief information officer of the growth equity firm General Atlantic, about making it in a technical career despite the odds.
