Doctors urge caution in exposing babies to peanuts

"Jennifer Elizondo of Virginia Beach did that with her 7-year-old daughter, Nina. ...When her daughter, Nina, was born, they didn't let her have any peanut product until she was 4 years old. Then they took her to the doctor's office and had her eat a peanut butter cup to see whether she, too, was allergic. She had no reaction."
A study in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that babies reduced the risk of developing an allergy when they ate weekly doses of a peanut-based product.
