William Howard Taft, who we honored as an Outstanding American in 1997, was born on this date in 1857. He won the wrestling championship of his freshman class at Yale University, then pinned the winner of the upper classes. Taft was elected as the 27th President of the United States and later served as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Learn more about Taft, who did in 1930 http://ow.ly/F8RA30f4W1c

We feature Taft and eight other Presidents, including George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, in our "Presidential Grapplers" exhibit at the museum.

If you want to learn even more about former wrestlers who became Presidents, you should read “The Wrestling Presidents – From Pins to Patriots” by William S. Worley and Gary M. Gray. Click here to purchase http://ow.ly/MpBh309022p
