5 Personal Writing Metrics Every Content Marketer Should Track

According to +Nate Baker, here are the questions you can answer after tracking personal writing metrics:

 - Are you getting faster or slower at creating content?
 - Are creating content more or less frequently?
 - What part of the content creation process is the biggest bottleneck?
 - What part of the process could you outsource?
 - What part of the process could you spend more time on?
 - Does your content require less editing and reworking over time?

In other words, you'll be able to improve. He breaks down the 5 metrics here:

Learn how content marketers can combine personal writing metrics, like production time, with performance metrics, like conversion, to get valuable insights.

The Efficient Writer: A Blunt Guide: http://nate.at/1lUV3DS By +Demian Farnworth
This is not the same thing as speed by brute force. This is speed by reduction of moves. By muscle memory. Divorced from the creative process.

Great critique on the race to writing faster from +Demian Farnworth. It's got me thinking about when speed is a good and bad goal :)

Should You Even Try to Write Faster?

As of late it’s fashionable to write hell for leather. In fact, there’s a hot cottage industry in the writing culture. For lack of better terms, let’s’ call it the “The Hell-For-Leather Writing Movement.”

Or HFLWM.

You see it in titles like “How to Write Fast,” “Write an Article in 20 Minutes,” and “How Fast Can You Write?”

But it gets empirical with "5 Personal Writing Metrics Every Content Marketer Should Track" by +Nate Baker  at Raven.

First blush and charming stuff. But there are problems. I explain:

Why All Marketers Should Only Use Mobile Devices For a Weekend http://nate.at/1mm8Lmy

I’m going to ask you to do something that might sound scary. I want you to turn off your computer for the whole weekend.

Turning off your computer could actually make you money. No, it’s not because you’ll be more rested. The catch is that you can still use your smart phone or tablet.

So what’s magic about restricting your options?

I like the way Steve Jobs put it when he said “focusing is about saying no.”

If it’s been a goal of yours to get inside the head of a mobile consumer, acting like one for a weekend is an easy way to get started.

The Challenge

Force yourself to use only your mobile device over the weekend, and you’ll better understand what you need to optimize for your clients.

If you list mobile marketing as a service on your website, have you taken the time to live exclusively in a mobile world? For the weekend, think like a prospect who’s only using mobile.

You can use your tablet, phone or Apple watch. Just keep your computer powered down.

Here’s what to focus on: http://nate.at/1mm8Lmy
