I found a really old copy of Office 97 and was able to get it running in my Windows 98 virtual machine. I also managed to get Netscape Navigator and Communicator running - though they are both nearly useless.

I've just finished writing a really simple open-source CLI encryption app, which I have creatively named "clicrypt". The app has been developed and tested on Ubuntu 15.04, although it also runs on other Linux distributions as well as Windows and OS X.

The neat thing about the application is that it defaults to STDIN and STDOUT for I/O, which means you can use it in a pipeline to encrypt data as it travels through. This example uses tar and clicrypt to encrypt the contents of a directory (it will also generate a 128-bit key for decrypting the file):

tar cf - somedir | clicrypt encrypt -c -k key >somedir.tar.encrypted

Feedback, suggestions, and comments are welcome. Also, I would be glad to answer any questions.

Good news - I have finally got a working fix for bug #871133 (no setting for changing volume increment). I've uploaded packages to a PPA which contains the fix:

https://launchpad.net/~george-edison55/+archive/ubuntu/gnome-settings-daemon

(Packages for Trusty, Vivid, and Wily are available.)

For a more detailed explanation and installation instructions, please see the answer below.

+Nathan Osman I wouldn't normally care about fixing Unity 7, coz it'll soon get replaced by Unity 8 anyway. On the other hand, getting the patch accepted on upstream GNOME has more potential. But this time the case's different, coz Ubuntu 16.04LTS is a Long Term Support which's got a lifespan upto 2021! 😮 So, fixing the bug on Unity 7.4 is a priority. I'll do my best to test and verify the patch once it's available as SRU through proposed repo. 😊

I always begin playing Christmas music the day after American Thanksgiving. And by "Christmas music", I mean this:

With FirefoxOS dead and Jolla in trouble, this really narrows the field.

Mozilla Stops Developing Firefox OS - Mozilla’s Firefox OS never made an impact on the smartphone industry. We have seen some attempts to bring that OS onto some popular devices — with little luck. Mozilla announced today that they will stop developing Firefox OS and selling smartphones with this operating system. It’s a shame to see it go, but Mozilla had no chance to compete with Android, iOS or even Windows Phone. An official confirmation of Firefox OS discontinuation has been given by A...
Firefox OS project is over as Mozilla decided to focus on other things. Will you miss it?

Good point, the article should make it clear that they are discontinuing the phones, not the operating system.

Go home, Opera. You're drunk.

It was then that I realized it might be time to disable hardware accelerated rendering.
