I just completed the first version of an Ubuntu Touch app for sending Wake-on-LAN (WOL) magic packets. It's published in the store under the name "Wake It!". (Yes, I know, a very original name :P)

If anyone wants to give it a try and let me know how it works (I was only able to test on the emulator) that would be awesome.

I'm working on rewriting the backend in an attempt to move more of the code in there. I'll make sure the next update works as you've described.

We did have a little desktop widget you could use for dragging-and-dropping files but it was removed in this release due to time constraints. It should be back in the next release.

"We think of a computer as deterministic…The moment it isn’t, you have undefined behavior, and in security undefined behavior is redefinable behavior."

I think I'm going to stick to ECC memory from now on.
Google's hack shows a fundamental flaw in basic computer hardware that could be impossible to fully patch in existing vulnerable computers.

This was a very interesting read.
Patrick Craig > Other Stuff > Compression Challenge. The $5000 Compression Challenge. Apart from the $100 cash I sent him, the emails below are a complete record of all the correspondence between myself and Mike Goldman. The only editing I have done is to remove some line breaks and to replace ...

That is an interesting read.  Makes me wonder though about how much entropy is in the generated "uncompressable" files.

I have a question for anyone else with an AMD CPU. At what temperature would you consider the CPU too hot? I was having some issues with my PC spontaneously rebooting under heavy load and decided to run mprime for a while to see what would happen.

Well what happened is that the PC immediately rebooted. I have an ASUS motherboard and it comes with an option in the BIOS that can be set to one of three options (one for performance, one for power efficiency and low noise, and one in between the two). I had it set for performance and switched it to normal. I was then able to run mprime.

However, the temperature still climbed to 69° C and stayed there. This was making me nervous so I switched to the third option in the BIOS. At this point, the temperature dropped to 51° C and everything ran smoothly.

So... any suggestions or tips?

Thanks for the tip. Looks like the temperature is 74° C - http://products.amd.com/pages/desktopapudetail.aspx?id=46&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1
