You tell a story to keep the attention of your audience. You elicit an emotion to get them to retain what you wanted them to learn.
This short video does this very well--it tells a story and elicits a strong emotion at the end. Well done.

If you aren't following what's going on in San Francisco today, you should! Theres a little kid named Miles whose Make a Wish was to become Batman for the day. So, what does the CITY of San Francisco do?
Oh, how about turn the whole place into Gotham. The San Francisco Chronicle ran a special cover for the paper. He's got helicopters following his every move as this little kid runs around in his batmobile across the city saving a damsel in distress, then headed to city hall. Thousands of people are involved in the process. Companies have paid tons of photographers to be a part of it, and youtube has flash mobs being setup for him. Just nice to see something like that.
