My first blog post in over a year: http://www.nathankowald.com/blog/2015/03/easy-dns-switching-on-os-x

I wanted an easy way to switch between two DNS servers on OS X.
1. My Raspberry Pi Ad-blocker
2. My default DNS

OS X comes with Automator which makes this really easy!
I'm currently using my Raspberry Pi B+ as an ad-blocker. It works great. Install Ad-blocker on your Raspberry Pi If you have an up-to-date Raspberry Pi

Regular exercise, such as walking, has been shown to be a key factor in reducing the risk of dementia by 60%
One reason may be that when animals go on very long walks it is usually to seek out a new, unexplored territory in which to live – because they are fleeing a predator, or because food has run out where they live. The brain, in anticipation of the fact that the animal is going to have to learn a lot about this new territory, releases growth factors, which act like growth-promoting fertiliser in the brain, allowing it to build connections between cells more easily as it learns.

I love this. I'd read over and over how exercise improves brain function and memory but never heard it explained like this.
It’s possible to radically improve mental agility. Norman Doige, psychiatrist and author of The Brain’s Way of Healing, suggests strategies to sharpen your mind

So good!

Reminder: Chrome DevTools can list the event handlers registered on any element. Inspect element > expand the 'Event Listeners' panel (to the right of your DOM tree). BOOM. All there.

Great site to compare and visualise the frequency difference of various audio formats (e.g. FLAC vs. MP3 CBR 320):

In my unscientific listen to four formats of the same song, FLAC sounded best, then 320, then V0, then V2. There wasn't a massive difference between 320 and FLAC in my test and V0 was only marginally worse than 320.
The FLAC song sounded full, like I was listening to the music being performed in front of me. Background elements stood out more and bass was punchier.
I've Dropboxed the four Pendulum songs to for you to try on your headphones.

Learnt a lot of DevTools awesomeness recently, from these two sites:

Love this one.

Clear the cache and perform a hard reload
If you require a hard refresh, click and hold Chrome’s refresh button with the DevTools open. You should see a drop-down menu allowing you to clear the cache and do a hard reload in one go. Time saver!

Great article about repetitive body movements when thinking.

I do this sometimes. Leg shaking when nervous or planning. Playing with objects when thinking. Pacing when in deep thought.

These movements may appear weird but you shouldn't suppress them. Suppressing stimming uses your brain's executive function reserves, leaving less room for attention and problem solving. Stim on!

Created this #bookmarklet to visualise how a 12 or 24-column layout works in Twitter Bootstrap. It also helps with detecting incorrect styling.
We use Twitter Bootstrap in a few websites at work. Today, while writing documentation I wanted a visual way to show Twitter Bootstrap's 12-column grid system. In a 12-column grid, each row must co...
