Feral - a poem

Feral. We list sideways in the open boat, dreams, like scabs descend upon open wounds.

Post Gen Con 2015 wrap up

I’m back in sultry South Florida from Gen Con, sitting outside while a cool morning breeze blows through. I’m covered in a sheen of sweat but all things considered, it’s still nice out before the midday sun makes everything undoable. I’m smoking from my…

Today, my blog is participating in the Battle for the Net

If you woke up tomorrow, and your internet looked like this, what would you do? Imagine all your favorite websites taking forever to load, while you get annoying notifications from your ISP suggesting you switch to one of their approved “Fast Lane”…

"One possible new scoring system would grant seven points for a touchdown, according to Goodell. The post-touchdown kick could still be attempted -- giving a team eight points -- but if the kick failed, the team would actually lose a point, dropping the touchdown score back to six."

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Monday that the league would consider eliminating pro football's extra point.

Slop the hog - a poem

A propeller’s hope of binded light Like a whisper between nuns, murmuration of the swallows, a collection of vespers walks out of the room. There’s no candy on the shelves anymore and the bins full of tangy metallic screws are just enough to wet the…

Some days just make you feel ebullient, happy and ready to take on the world. Today started out that way for me, as I worked out some new plot hooks for my current work in progress (WIP from here on). The great part was realizing that one plot hook…

My Gen Con 2015 schedule!

Gen Con starts for me tomorrow, I’m super excited about going back, I decided not to go last year and the lapse has made the excitement hardly bearable. This year I’ll be going with a local crew, the first time this has ever happened. There are around 5…

Rejection. That’s what I got on Friday night. After dinner with my in-laws, just before we left I went to the bathroom and checked my email and saw this: Dear Mr. Hall, Thank you for your submission. Unfortunately at this time, it does not meet our needs.…

Lucius Shepard is dead

Damn, terrible news on such a beautiful day. Lucius Shepard was one of the most under-appreciated writers of fiction, science fiction and cyberpunk of a generation. As this blog post notes, he was prolific as a short story writer and novella-ist but…

All right, how’s everyone’s 2014 shaping up so far? Pretty good, right? Words flying out of you like a spastic colon? Excellent, excellent. Wait, you in the back, muttering under your breath, what was that? You’re still in a post-holiday … Continue…

Love Leo's Pizza, they use good ingredients and delivery time isn't too bad. It's an oasis for an area that otherwise only has the crappy chain pizza joints.

This is a used bookstore, very, very used. There's nothing wrong with that, just know in advance. It's an odd little shop that mostly caters to genre lovers, children's books, westerns, crime novels, oh and did I mention ROMANCE NOVELS? The owner is a big lover of the romance genre and has numerous pictures of her and her favorite writers hanging around. Oddly, she doesn't really seem to like the sci-fi/fantasy genre at all... which is fine, except while I was browsing that section she loudly complained about people who like sci-fi. I was just quietly browsing, not bitterly complaining that there was no Michael Stackpole, or eating, belching, farting or tossing D20's down the aisles... Anyways, the experience was odd enough (did I mention the building is what appear to be several large shipping containers linked together?) and uncomfortable enough that I probably won't go back.

I'm pretty sure this place has been closed for a couple years now. It's too bad too, this place was a heck of a lot better than the Bookworm.
