I'm very sad to hear that Yorba is no more. I really do believe that it was a force for good in the world and was one of the first organizations to bring really beautiful, carefully crafted apps to the Linux desktop. +Jim Nelson and the other Yorba people did some amazing work. I'm excited to see what happens to Pantheon Mail in the future (and I'm sure I'll have some part to play, whatever that might be), but for now I just want to reflect on how great everything was and how much they inspired me to do indie app development.
Today I learned that Yorba went under. Which sucks. Several of us were aware that Yorba was bleeding money for quite some time, but nobody knew that they actually officially called it quits. In fact, I tried reaching out to +Jim Nelson when we were in SF for WestCoast Summit. Now, I guess I know why I didn't hear back.

As you all know, we ship the mail client Geary which was developed by Yorba. We had some design disagreements with the direction they started going and the version we ship in Freya is actually pretty heavily patched. So while it's unfortunate that Yorba isn't around anymore, there's opportunity to be had here.

Today, I registered a new Launchpad project for Pantheon Mail and started working on some small branches. +Nathan Dyer has started working on re-applying his patches from Freya to the latest trunk. I'm really interested in cleaning up some of the complexity that came as a result of trying to support Unity and older versions of Gtk.

Anyways, if you ever thought about conributing to Geary development, you can come join us at https://code.launchpad.net/pantheon-mail :)
