This is a great little breakdown of some key elements that can be at issue in the SEO world. It rings very true to my experience in the agencies I've worked in.

Gotta love Tesla coils. I think this would be a fun project to do on this scale or slightly larger. My first thought is making Halloween decorations where you put a tesla coil on a rail system and have it track with people coming to the door to set off small lights or activate spooky decorations.
If you've always wanted to make a Tesla coil, here's a simple-looking one you could put together over the holidays :-).

Great article.
I really must remember to pass things on here more often. Here, I went to my MP (who voted against same-sex marriage), and then I wrote a thing:

Mwahahaha.

Also, if you know anything about Koala's this picture is so ironic and terrifying that one has to love it even more.

"Beneath the seemingly literal and thus faithful translation [from Greek to Latin] there is concealed, rather, a translation of Greek experience into a different way of thinking. Roman thought takes over the Greek words without a corresponding, equally authentic experience of what they say, without the Greek word. The rootlessness of Western thought begins with this translation." – Martin Heidegger, The Origin of the Work of Art

Note: this is a nice feature, to actually be able to quote things properly and add basic typographical changes.

*Four Tips to Succeed with #Data *

I was at the University of Tennessee Business School yesterday to talk about digital analytics. There we some amazing presentations from Capitol One, IBM, Caterpillar and Terradata.

I particularly enjoyed the presentation from Capitol One about how they are succeeding with their #BigData initiatives.

You need to have four organizational capabilities to succeed with data:

Strategic alignment: Data has to be a competitive advantage. You need to have a plan, how will you use data as a competitive advantage?

Analytical DNA: data needs to be part of every decision made within your organization. Have a question about the competitive landscape? Use data. Wondering what's popular with your customers? Use data.

Management & talent development: You need to have and nurture great talent, it's about the people! This is an idea that +Avinash Kaushik has been talking about for years. Appreciate your people. Create a unique environment that let's them grow. If they feel like they're not growing they will leave.

Innovation dedication: Data needs to be a core competency, it's not a side project. You need to go all in. And you need to dedicate a team to innovation. That should be their job, create innovative ways to use data.

I think a lot of these tips also apply to other data initiatives, like web/app analytics.
