Recent pollen counts. No wonder my allergies have been borderline incapacitating this past month!

Large amount of resilience/transition thinking seems based on oversimplified assumptions that global economy will just go away. Seems to betray more nostalgia (perhaps for a past that never existed) than understanding of why global trade/info flows work as they do.

Just as I'd rather be in a poorly-positioned city if it were committed to bold change (than a better-sited but complacent one), I'd rather live in a city with an eye towards trade, information exchange and innovation than one that believes in a mythical form of self-sufficiency (mythical because to be modern is to be interconnected, and almost no one who's sane is actually prepared to give up the fruits of modernity, like education and learning, public health and medicine, and public safety).

Now, that said: it totally makes sens to go meet your neighbors, have three months of food on hand, learn some practical skills and work on systems that provide household and community passive survivability. But you'll be much better off if you do those things in a dynamic, vital city than an isolated, change-resistant one.
