I wrote this article over the weekend, and it was well received, but some disagreed with my thinking (which is fine, I encourage that). If you don't read it, I essentially say Google is funneling us all into Search to realize their monetization strategy while everyone else splits their services into apps.
We're getting pulled into Search by Google, but fed ads in various spots by the likes of Facebook. When you consider what Facebook is doing, they're creating several places to push ads to you via their various apps (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) and their upstart ad network. They've essentially turned their 1 billion users into potentially 4-5 billion ad impressions, a method some call evil. I call it brilliant.
Now we see that Google has snapped up a company specializing in letting retailers know how their online campaign is working (http://blogs.wsj.com/cmo/2014/05/06/google-to-acquire-online-attribution-firm-adometry/)... which dovetails nicely into those special "Google Now shopping cards" everyone holds so dear. They push ads to retailers, then tell them how well it's working for them... via every method Google has to push business to them, including cards and search ads.

Please, PLEASE do not think what is going on here is meant to enrich your life blindly. I know it's fun to lavish the world in your Google ball washing, but they're here to make money from you, just like everyone else.
Don't think for a second Google is better than the rest just because they're your favorite company.  Their strategy is different, but they're here to use you to make money via ads. That's not evil when anyone does it, so be objective next time you damn someone for how they run their empire.
Quick, rattle off everything Google Now does! Unless you’ve been keeping a close eye on all the changes, you likely can’t. The service ...

Sorry 'bout that, hypebeast.... Better luck next time.
A few news articles are touting that Google Glass is available to all today, effectively ending the Explorer beta program and opening up the world of Glass to anyone. Clicking a specific link gave access to the Glass order page ...

Shut up about your smartphone for 15 minutes.

Technology gave this woman a dying wish. A sweet, old lady who just wanted to experience life again was allowed to do so thanks to +Oculus and the +Oculus Rift .

If you don't cry happy tears about this, you likely have no soul.

Someone was asked to take their Google Glass off at a restaurant. They refused, and left, then took to Google+ to complain. From the blog post below:

_Around this time the spate of reviews arrived on Google. Feast looked into this, and discovered that all of the one stars are from people who commented on the diner's original Google+ post. The negative reviews include lines such as: "Ignorant bigots and hateful. Perhaps being illegally discriminate too. The food is irrelevant as the service is less than poor." The reviewer lives in Phoenix. _

And you wonder why they call you Glassholes. Aside form the Google+ hypebeasting that occurs about anything Google anyway, you purposefully try to discredit a restaurant based on a difference of opinion?
Wow.

Dear Canada,

What is lost in this is why it took so long. Let me clarify.
Nobody gives a shit about Canada. You've given us little, so why should we give you so much? Paul Schaffer sucks, and Poutine is okay sometimes. I'm not even going to Beiber, either... it's too easy.
Also, thanks for French Canadians. They're literally the worst people on earth. Their saving grace is providing a barometer for how to not be. /s
Enjoy Play Music, though. Now that we're tired of our toy, it's all yours. In case it never sunk in, you're the bastard little brother we don't beat up because we happen to have the same mother.

Now, go back to your exploding whale on the beach, your imploding whale of a Mayor in Toronto, and please... PLEASE... Shut all the way up in comment threads about stuff not being available to you.
The world "#literally" gives zero fucks about you. You suck. A lot.

Sincerely,

'Murica

When I first saw now former Google+ chief +Vic Gundotra , it was at I/O last year. I was waiting for someone outside the front steps of the Moscone, and Vic came sauntering down with a few other guys in tow... wearing Glass and -- wait for it -- a sweater.
I idd a double-take, then though "hey, neat... Vic."
He was shorter than I thought he'd be, but he was still a giant to me. I've come to know Vic very sparsely, and have nothing but the highest praise. Sometimes in life, you get to know someone privately, and they're radically different than you see them publicly. Not Vic. Vic really is the good, solid guy you see online.
Wherever he goes, whatever he does, I'm instantly intrigued. Good luck to you, Vic.
#andthen
Vic Gundotra, who has championed Google+ since inception, is leaving Google. He confirmed the departure via his Google+ page, and CEO Larry Page further discussed the matter with Re/Code. Gundotra’s farewell touched on his passion, and finding what’s next. His ...
