Do you ever stop to think what driving would be like without headlamps or street-lamps?

Of course not, because until nature helps us to evolve some kind of night vision we need these to light our way and stop us from forever running into things.

But let’s be fair, nature’s not the fastest or brightest modernizer. So by process of elimination it falls to us to look out for ourselves. Enter Daan Roosegaarde and Dr. Alexander Krichevsky of Bioglow, who have been modifying plants to glow in the dark. Entirely drug free, obviously.

If you own wallflowers and it is not a CD, then you must prune them. A.k.a erysimum, these perennial flowers should be pruned in late winter.

Deadheading (which has no connection with the Grateful Dead groupies) is also essential to prolong growth.

Do you grow either Globe or Jerusalem artichokes? Which one do you prefer?

You might not have thought about growing artichokes before, but they’re a great plant for beginners and they make an unusual addition to the menu.

You've probably seen this before - but we did a blog post about this magnificent tree - The President, and how National Geographic photographed it.

National Geographic have been to the western slope of the Sierra Nevadas in Califor-nia, roughly 2000m above sea level to photograph a tree. Big deal. Except that this giant sequoia is over 75m tall, 8m around and sprouted at the very beginning of the Iron Age, some 3200 years ago.

Purple toothwort - popular… but not with the poplar

Purple toothwort (lathraea clandestine) is becoming increasingly popular as a garden plant in the UK. But don’t expect it to be universally popular, for it is a parasite.

Its striking colour and explosive seed capsules will bring a touch of drama to your garden. But don’t expect it to be universally popular.

How do you like plants imitating life?

This is a major Canadian show in Montreal called Mosaic Sculptures which are made entirely of plants.

An invasion of carefully sculptured bugs, reptiles, fish, bears and gorillas appear to roam free across the grounds, with giant hands, faces, maidens clutching cranes and Mother Nature herself adding to the exquisiteness of 2013’s theme: Land of Hope.

Never used borage in cooking. Have you?

It supposed to have cucumber-like flavour.

Borago officinalis or a starflower. I like its colour.
