Natalie Peluso (previously Christie) is one of Australia's finest sopranos, as well as a writer, YouTube kitchen diva and devoted mother of four children.
Winner of the Australian Singing Competition’s prestigious Marianne Mathy Award and finalist representing Australia in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World, Natalie was also the recipient of the Australian Music Foundation Award, the Miriam Licette Prize, and was accepted into the inaugural Australian National Academy of Music Vocal Program in Brisbane under the auspices of Dame Joan Sutherland. A multi-award and competition-winning graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, Natalie studied with Rudolf Piernay, David Pollard, Johanna Peters, Paul Hamburger, Graham Johnson, and in international masterclasses with Dame Joan Sutherland, Larissa Gergieva, Marilyn Horne and Marlene Kleinmann Malas.
Natalie made her semi-professional debut as Musetta in “La Bohême” for British Youth Opera at the Royal Festival Hall. Her professional debut followed as Sr Constance in “The Carmelites” for Welsh National Opera, where she was invited to remain as Principal Soprano for five more years, performing leading roles such as Sophie “Der Rosenkavalier”, Gilda “Rigoletto”, Eurydice “Orfeo”, Pamina “Die Zauberflöte”, Zerlina “Don Giovanni”, Despina “Cosi Fan Tutte”, Adele “Die Fledermaus”, Marzelline “Leonora”, Adina “L’elisir d’amore” and Susanna “Le nozze di Figaro”.
Other highlights include Zerlina “Don Giovanni” for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden conducted by Sir Charles Mackerras; the Soprano Soloist in Bach’s “St. John Passion” with English National Opera; and her hugely acclaimed appearances as Susanna in Mozart’s “Le nozze di Figaro” with Opera Australia, after which one critic wrote it was “hard to imagine a better fit between a singer and an immortal stage identity.”
Much in demand as a recitalist and concert artist, she has appeared at Wigmore Hall, Batignano Festival in Italy, Aldeburgh Festival, Oslo Cathedral, Berlin Philharmonie, St Martin in the Field’s and Windsor Castle in the Presence of HRH Prince Charles. She has recorded for BBC Radio Two and Three, RTE Ireland and the ABC.
In 2009 Natalie returned with her husband to live in Australia to raise her four young children.
Recent engagements include Adele in “Die Fledermaus” for Opera Queensland's Opera at Jimbour, Opera Acoustics for Opera Queensland and the Ipswich Festival; Opera in the Vineyard at Ballandean Estate in Stanthorpe for Opera Queensland.
Future engagements include Soprano Soloist in Mozart’s Mass in C Minor with Victoria Chorale at St. Paul's Cathedral in Melbourne, Soloist in Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 conducted by Simone Young with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in 2016; and Handel’s Messiah, also with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in 2016.
In addition to her operatic career, Natalie is the host of The Hungry Soprano, a YouTube channel devoted to celebrating food, music and life. She is also writing a book and immersive training exploring voice and fearlessness.
