- - Thanks, Trista,n, for your reply, which I respect, but disagree.
I'm 60+ yrs old, have been studying this subject since 1960s.
LSD should be prohibited?? WHY? ...ANSWER!!
This is, allegedly, a "FREE COUNTRY". Fact: In the 1880s, opium, Laudanum, heroin, & cocaine were available, "over the counter". That said, NOT ONE, SINGLE PERSON WAS KILLED, nor harmed, because of "illegal drugs". (No drug laws existed).
The present Opioid Hysteria, you raise, is actually the "IgnoranceEpidemic".
STUPID, college age, kids "Didn't realize Vicodin was addictive" (verbatim) - then steal Grandma's pills, get hooked, or OD+ alcohol = Death.
We now have heavy hand government, TELLING DOCTORS, what they can, or can't, prescribe!!
We now have a "War on pain patients", and MANY old, infirm people are suffering.
I KNOW, because I am one of them... (severe, musc-tension Migraine / fibromyalgia).
Very little press has covered plight of LEGIT pain patients.
YOUR wonderful government- intervention is torturing old, pain patients, over-restricting needed meds.
Some, too feeble to assist themselves, will be forced to SUICIDE, to end unbearable pain. I have no doubt this has already happened.
We won't solve the problem here...
I CHALLENGE YOU, ANSWER : Resolved, Citizens of the US should be DEPRIVED OF LIBERTY to medicate themselves.
- Burden of proof is on YOU.
- while all of these are valid points, these drugs can help. BUT most of them are abused and do more harm than good. Cannabis on the other hand will help with pain and in most cases help stop or even reverse the disease or condition, it can even kill cancer cells. And there are many strains for more specific needs. If you live in a state that allows medical marijuana I suggest giving it a try.45w
- - Thanks, again,Tristan. Almost all of my adult life, with breaks only for high risk work (salvage/industrial diver) I smoked weed - even on the job, while a welder/ironworker.
Only in long retrospect, do I realize that I was medicating myself (though I do enjoy a buzz while artist, musician, etc.)
Even Cannabis, though helpful, was not a potent enuf relaxant to counter the spasm of fibromyalgia - migraine.
Fortunately, I had primary Doc who was also Prof. of Pharmacology/Toxicology.
After trying every alternative, he wrote Rx for Valium. Though I didn't need it for a couple months (I'm not into depressants)... a tiny dose of 5mg worked like a charm, with only Tylenol for pain, and that prevented "suicide migraine", which I had endured 6-8 times/ year.
As you know, Cannabis can be useful for other spasm, like in MS, others. I understand that it's the CBD, not THC (psychoactive) that's anti-spasmodic, ANTI-CONVULSANT...
The Federal Govt (US) still maintains that weed has "no medical use", still scheduled with heroin & LSD, etc.
Cannabis, medical, is legal in Michigan. Petition for "recreational use" will put that on the Ballot in a few months, should help Mich. budget, as it did in Colorado.
Thanks for your comments, I am "Jeffersonian"/absolutist, when it comes to personal freedom.
Though we disagree, I'm sure you are a good guy...
See you around (the internet).
