Introduction

A Nebraskan at heart, I currently live in Westchester, New York. Cultural opportunities abound, living in such a populous and richly storied region.

In Russian, I would write my name Настя, which is short for Анастаси́я (Anastasia), though very few people I know pronounce it correctly. Yes, there is a tennis player, six years older than me, with the same name. But I don't speak Russian. I moved from Saint Petersburg to Omaha twenty years ago (by way of a three-week pit stop in Barcelona), at which point I learned English in about five months when I was five. I learned French over the course of ten years through pop songs. I wish I lived in Barcelona and spoke fluent Catalan. I started college when I was fifteen, but that's no big deal. I traveled alone internationally for the first time when I was sixteen so that I could go study permaculture in Brasil. I swam for my college swim team, the Simon's Rock Llamas. I love long runs with my Zune and my Vibrams. One day I would like to enroll in the Harvard Graduate School of Design. One day. I think that having a carefree attitude and being your own best friend are a pretty swell approach to life. And... I believe fiercely in staying connected with the people I meet throughout my life. (So don't be a stranger!)

Yes, you read it right. The mascot at my college: The LLAMA

My favorite musician: Tori Amos

What matters most to me: Tribal Sovereignty ; Pursuing a fulfilling life ; Raspberries ; Laughter

I had the great fortune to hear +Kaylin Clinton perform live in Six-Fours-les-Plages, France, just a few short weeks ago. Check out her rendition of "Ain't No Sunshine"!

All these posts in my stream inspired me to get my act together and submit to the #PlusOneCollection2012 . I took something like 100,000 photos in 2012 so it's truly difficult to pick the best one. Nevertheless, a photo that gets posted to this feed twice seems like a pretty strong contender. Google+ and 2012 made a huge difference in my life. And I just so happened to be lucky enough that while I was in San Francisco for the Google+ Photographers' Conference, there was both an eclipse and a 75th anniversary. A very memorable week of my life! This shot, "Golden Gate Red at 75," doesn't look quite as sharp or focused on the bridge as so many other photographers' shots from that night. But the view that I shared with a bunch of strangers at the edge of Fort Mason was incredible: a waterfall pouring over the bridge and turning into bursts of red over the Golden Gate - what a show! I hope 2013 brings you all the same kind of splendid experiences I had in 2012.

Bon Any! A new year has begun, and as we move from the highs of New Year's parties into the ordinariness of day-to-day living, I hope you find a way to honor the specific goals in any resolutions you may have set for 2013. #streetphotography   #candids   #NewYears

Nobody told me about the magical Sunday trains. I thought the Polar Express was rolling into the station, ready to take me traveling through time.

Today we introduce the Hello, Photography series. Say hello!

Have you seen it yet? The first photograph ever taken, or at least the first photograph to survive the test of time: "View from the Window at Le Gras" by the inventor of heliography, Nicéphore Niépce. When did he capture this? Back in 1826.

More information about this image available from the University of Texas at Austin: http://www.hrc.utexas.edu/exhibitions/permanent/firstphotograph/#top/

Inaugural post of our new series, Hello, Photography, in which we attempt to connect the digital photography community with the photography world that existed before Flickr, Google+, or 500px ever arrived on the scene.

David Allen's TEDx Talk is simply beautiful. It's a perfect introduction to #GTD ("Getting Things Done") and lifehacking for the uninitiated novice.
