"...if you have an idea, can code, can design, want to learn, or want to improve the situation of the trans and non-binary communities through technology, please join us and help make history.”
Here is the latest press release. The key points - registration is available at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/transcode-tickets-15831761224 and the venue will be GoCardless on Goswell Rd in London.

Trans*code Hackday and workshops

Announcing Trans*code - the UK’s first ever hack event focused solely on drawing attention to transgender issues and opportunities.

What: Trans*Code

Open to trans, non-binary, allies, coders, designers and visionaries, Trans*Code is a groundbreaking two-day event that aims to help draw attention to transgender issues through a topic-focused hackday. Supported by introductory programming workshops, community members not currently working in technology are also encouraged to participate.

When: Trans*Code

The install and networking social takes place on Friday March 27, followed by the main workshop and hackday on Saturday, 28 March.

Where:

GoCardless
Angel House, 3rd floor
338-346 Goswell Road
London EC1V 7LQ

Why:

Co-organiser Naomi Ceder explains: “As technology offers growing opportunities, being sure these opportunities are equally accessible to traditionally marginalised groups grows ever more important.

“Participants can come from any background, working together to create prototypes around the themes of transgender issues and access to technology.

“There is a small budget to help support some attendees with travel and lodging, so if you have an idea, can code, can design, want to learn, or want to improve the situation of the trans and non-binary communities through technology, please join us and help make history.”

More information/registration: registration is now open at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/transcode-tickets-15831761224 or http://bit.ly/1AbUWvr .

Join us for a set of beginner friendly workshops and one day hack focusing on transgender issues. We'll start the day at 8:00 with a short workshop introducing the Python programming language and Git for those new to programming. If you're an old hand at coding, grab some coffee and get comfortable. Once the short workshops wrap up we'll be creating projects focusing on issues that impact the transgender community. A robust Code of Conduct is in...

At EuroPython @z_anderle convinced me to write a letter to my  @25yearoldself. I'm rather pleased with it  - http://www.letterstomy25yearoldself.com/letters/Naomi-Ceder/
Naomi Ceder; 58; Software Architect, Transgender woman; London; Illustration by O Woomi Chung. A Letter to My 25-Year-Old Self,. You don't know me, but I know you. We are separated by over 30 years, we have different names, and you are living (or trying to live) as a man, while I am a woman.

Food is nice, but the slow service ruins it. Service is slow at best, other times we've been seated and then just ignored. One really shouldn't have to wait 20 minutes to a half hour just to order coffee and dessert.

Great location, nice (if somewhat utilitarian) rooms, pleasant and helpful staff, and very nice breakfast, all for very competitive rates. I will be back!

Bad food, worse service The three young men did nothing technically "wrong" when I was there. When I ordered I asked for a Vito, chips and a medium diet. One kid slapped together my sandwich, on very stale bread, with no vinaigrette that I could taste, and the other pushed a cup at me and muttered something I couldn't hear about a drink. I paid what he asked and then when I picked out my chips he told me I hadn't paid for the chips. I told him I'd asked for chips and he sullenly told me he'd asked me if I was getting a just a drink and I hadn't mentioned the chips. He then stared at me clearly expecting me to just put the chips back. When I asked him how much the chips were he made a sour face at me and reluctantly took my money for the chips. Clearly letting me buy what I'd originally ordered was a horrible inconvenience. So they have a killer combination - bad food and worse service. It had been a long time since I'd tried Jimmy John's... and I don't expect to ever return.
