This video illustrates the general working principle of the Cytomass Monitor: a cell is attached to the Cytomass Monitor's cantilever, which in turn is allowed to vibrate with very low amplitudes via photothermal-excitation. Cell mass can be derived with high accuracy, and can be monitored over long periods of time in physiological conditions. http://ow.ly/samN30gdFc7

Inertial picobalance reveals fast mass fluctuations in mammalian cells

David Martínez-Martín and his colleagues from the Biophysics group of the ETH Zürich published a paper in the high-ranking journal Nature, introducing a technology they invented to allow tracking the mass of cells in real time. The article describes the technology and reports on initial results of their studies using this technology.

Despite (or thanks to?) its simplicity, researchers at the Institute of Chemistry of New Materials at the University of Osnabrück were able to measure the architecture of the cancer medicin Doxorubicin on carbon nanotubes, a potential drug delivery system, and published this in Adv. Mat. Interfaces 2017. http://ow.ly/dQ1r30fgbV3

Measure friction variations with the Nanosurf lateral force mode kit: it provides everything that is required to perform lateral force imaging with your AFM. The kit comes with a set of cantilevers and a polymer blend sample composed of poly(styrene-butadiene-styrene) (SBS) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)

New application note online: our image of the layered structure of a strontium titanate film turned out beautifully. Take a look! Have you done similar measurements with your AFM system?
