What Can You Do With a Humanities Ph.D., Anyway? http://zite.to/1mrcoTu

" People who take their Ph.D.s into other realms are not necessarily being hired for their content expertise, but for their process skills: the ability to do excellent research, to write, to make cogent arguments.” These skills, it turns out, are in high demand."

Would be interesting to assess the same in other countries, especially in African ones...

"The smartphone revolution was about putting a powerful computer and an internet connection in everyone’s pocket; it was not about creating a new class of economic gatekeepers with the unchecked power to control and destroy markets with zero oversight and little true competition. "

'What this means is that companies that aren’t at the top of their industry in gathering and acting on the kind of big data where more is only better—i.e., sparse data—could, according to at least two distinct strains of research, lose out to competitors who are.'

We know it's wrong but, God help us, we still love hate speech: http://www.theeastafrican.co.ke/OpEd/comment/We-know-it-is-wrong-but--God-help-us--we-still-love-hate-speech/-/434750/2271682/-/item/0/-/5ysoqb/-/index.html #Kenya #Rwanda

1. Interestingly, I know the author to be Tanzanian, so it makes one wonder what collective 'we' he refers to. Africans?
2. Is it hate speech we love, or is it that 'we' are a receptive audience to mis/dis-information that eventually morphs into hate speech and its ugly aftermaths?
3. Defeatist? Dangerous generalization? (See comments on the piece).
