Bubble Wrap and Duct Tape Mattresses
Don't just wrap it!  Use it to give others a more comfortable night's sleep!

Have you ever stopped and wondered what it might be like to be homeless? How do you stay dry and warm at night?  I personally can’t even begin to comprehend what it must feel like, and what challenges they must face.  Having a barrier to the cold, such as a bubble wrap mattress, might just make all the difference to how comfortable your night will be.  Even with a sleeping bag it is a challenge for those that are homeless to stay warm and dry.  Although over time the “bubbles will pop”, they will still provide a barrier for the sleeping bag from the moisture ridden ground.

A friend of mine organized a event where we made 32 bubble wrap and duct tape mattresses/pillow sets for a homeless shelter in Portland.  We used bubble wrap from a recycle center and many stores like Target donated the duct tape.

Always Believe in your Dreams
Anne Frank’s remarkable and optimistic spirit

Despite the dire situation in which Anne Frank found herself during WWII as she and her family hid for two years in a secret annex in Amsterdam, she didn’t stop dreaming.  This remarkable 13 year old girl dreamed of being an actress and eventually a writer.  Her written words from the diary she kept were said to be the voice of millions during the Holocaust.

Anne wrote the following words, just months before the betrayal of their hiding place and her subsequent deportment to the Auschwitz concentration camp.

“I finally realized that I must do my schoolwork to keep from being ignorant, to get on in life, to become a journalist, because that's what I want! I know I can write ..., but it remains to be seen whether I really have talent ...

I want to be useful or bring enjoyment to all people, even those I've never met. I want to go on living even after my death! And that's why I'm so grateful to God for having given me this gift, which I can use to develop myself and to express all that's inside me!

When I write I can shake off all my cares. My sorrow disappears, my spirits are revived! But, and that's a big question, will I ever be able to write something great, will I ever become a journalist or a writer?”

Anne succumbed to typhus a few months later, just before the Jewish liberations.

Anne Frank did go on living even after her death, through her beautiful spirit which shines through in the heartfelt words of her diary.  Thank you, Anne, for sharing your dreams and your courage. You truly will never been forgotten!

I believe because He lived and loved
What Christ did for me

I love that He lived, that He forgave, that He healed, and that He went to Gethsemane to battle for our souls.  I love that He chose to die that we might live again.  How can I ever thank Him enough? I suppose what I can do is try to love like He loved. Obviously, my imperfect self will often fall short, but every day I can get up and try again, by following His perfect example.

That’s the beauty of life; each day is a new day, a new beginning. There have been so many times during my life where I have felt my Savior’s love surrounding me, giving me hope for one more day. He has comforted me when others could not, and I dearly love Him for that!

How has Christ’s love made a difference in your life, or given you hope?
