What can you say about a hospital and a doctor throwing a 92 year old battle decorated veteran of 2 wars out on the street, My dad is one tough cookie, he received a bronze star in WWII for assisting in the shooting down of a kamikaze plane directed at his ship. He participate in 4 seven month tours to Vietnam on 2 different US Naval ships, the USS Kearsarge CV-33 & the USS Frank E Evans DD-754. He is the oldest survivor of a collision off the coast of Vietnam between the USS frank E Evans and the Australian aircraft carrier HMS Melbourne. His namesake son made the ultimate sacrifice and was lost in that collision. He gave his all for his country, now he is 92, unable to sit up or walk & is being tossed to the street.

Until one about a week ago he could walk with a walker, dress & bath himself, cook his own meals, He has lived alone since his wife’s passing in 2012. Last week while vacationing in Florida, something went severely wrong. Within a 36 hour period he could not sit up, get out of bed, walk with a walker, had no appetite, was hardly cohesive. At this point on my sister, his daughter, had him taken by ambulance to Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte FL. He was taken at about 9pm Tuesday January 10th but was not admitted until the following day, Wed January 11th. We were told 4 tests of his heart enzyme levels resulted in high levels & were told he most likely suffered a heart attack. A follow up echo-cardiogram showed no damage to the heart or sign of any heart attack. With further testing it was found he had a severe ear infection & UTI. These issues were addressed with antibiotics but the man clearly needs PT or rehab, he is still unable to sit up, walk, or urinate on his own. He was seen by a cardiologist, and an infectious specialist. A Dr. Jacob Hyppolite who has never even spoken to his family discharged him from the hospital after 2 days with NO conditions attached. This means he is not eligible for Medicaid to pay for any kind of rehab. My sister has now asked for over 2 days o speak to this doctor personally. The hospital gave my brother 2 different non working phone numbers to get a hold of this doctor. Neither number was an actual working number. You mean to tell me this hospital has no way to get a hold of this doctor. Meanwhile we have refused to move him from the hospital & the nurses & staff continue to treat him,is is standard procedure to continue to treat & administer drugs to a “discharged” patient. Medicaid would pay for the rehab if he had been admitted for 3 days. Yet even though he has actually been at Fawcett Memorial now for 6 days because Dr.Hyppolite “discharged” him after only 2 days he does not qualify for paid follow up care. According to internet searches average rehab facilities cost between $10,000 to $20,000 per month. Any retired enlisted military know he doesn’t have that kind of money. Again the American veterans are screwed.

Tonight ( 1/14/17) my sister spoke to this doctors partner, who was not exactly “happy” to speak to her, He is supposed to come to the hospital tomorrow morning. Where the heck is Dr. Hyppolite, who REFUSES to talk to our family or the patient.
