Please check in with your family, friends, neighbors or colleagues this holiday weekend via a call, visit, email or text. Showing that you care will help someone who may be and/or feel alone and isolaed. Reach out to someone you know who has lost someone who served and died for this country. Have a safe and good weekend.

Some people with depression may be plagued by low self-esteem and feelings of worthlessness, yet function well on a day-to-day basis. Others may not be as affected by negative thinking, but buckle under heavy fatigue and pervasive apathy. Sadness could be considered a defining symptom of depression, but even that’s not always present: A person with depression might be overly irritable or emotionally numb instead of profoundly unhappy. http://www.hopetocope.com/everything-you-ever-wanted-to-know-about-depression/ #depression #mentalhealth

Depression has been a constant part of my life since then. A lot of people don’t know that. Like most black people it’s not something I talk about openly with everyone. I’m already black, a woman, and overweight. Why add another stigmatized identity? Why give people another reason to doubt my capability? Why threaten my professional reputation? Why be vulnerable? As a community, some of us either suffer in silence or keep our mental health issues between us and the Lord. http://www.self.com/story/racism-mental-health-in-the-black-community #depression #black #trauma

According to a recent study, 20.6 percent of lawyers surveyed classified themselves as heavy drinkers, and 28 percent of those surveyed said they experienced symptoms of depression. According to the most recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the legal industry has the eleventh highest suicide rate. Despite these facts, lawyers are less likely than others to seek out help because they don’t want to admit they have a problem. http://abovethelaw.com/2017/05/some-law-firms-try-to-eliminate-stigma-from-attorneys-struggling-with-mental-health-issues/ #mentalhealth #stigma #lawyers

Only around 15 percent of people with schizophrenia in the United States are employed. Approximately 70 percent of people with schizophrenia have experienced some form of discrimination. Only 46 percent of people say they would tell a friend if they were diagnosed with schizophrenia. https://themighty.com/2016/03/living-with-schizophrenia-what-to-know/ #schizophrenia #discrimination #mentalhealth
