Good article from last week about gun ownership and use of deadly force. "There has to be a reasonable fear of great bodily harm." "Before you pull the trigger, you need to be sure that you can claim an imminent danger of great bodily harm."

This was an interesting one. Trial lawyer working second job to pay off student loans and an officer fibbing about video recordings while being recorded.

Police falsely told a man he couldn’t film them. ‘I’m an attorney,’ he said. ‘I know what the law is.’

Major ruling. Certainly could have an impact on criminal cases. I have not read the full opinion, but I wonder if they expect jurors to speak up or if courts will have the ability to ask jurors about any racially biased comments made during deliberations.

A very good 13 minute listen. I have personally heard many similar stories. The primary issues presented are convicted people being incarcerated for owing money, and people, pre-conviction, being incarcerated because they cannot post bail. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a simple or 'cut and paste' solution. Perhaps decriminalization? Certainly, a Judge and Court's oversight, responsibility and expense would increase.

TEDTalks episodes are short, entertaining, informative, and usually fact driven. Sometimes I'm a little skeptical when presented with an opinion interpreting facts and data, but if nothing else it gets my mind thinking about certain topics.

Controversial drug case. Even if paroled he may very well continue to serve time in Florida for a different conviction. 29 years is a very long time. Perhaps the parole board has good reasons to believe he needs continue incarceration.

5th Amendment right against self-incrimination in the digital world. Minnesota Appellate Court ruled that "to provide his fingerprint—is no more testimonial than furnishing a blood sample, providing handwriting or voice exemplars, standing in a lineup, or wearing particular clothing." So long as their is probable cause for the warrant, electronic devices will be subject to police investigation.

Good article, easy read. Presents arguments on both sides as to whether field sobriety tests are a reliable indicator to determine if someone was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of marijuana.
