NYC Pride is excited to announce its 2016 theme, ‘Equality Needs You’ with the release of theme artwork and brand elements for this year’s events. The organization explained the meaning behind the theme with the following statement:

"We’re getting closer, but we aren’t there yet. Just ask the bisexual homeless youth on the Christopher Street Pier, the trans worker trying to achieve the American dream, or the gay refugee escaping certain death in his war torn homeland. The Supreme Court's affirmation of marriage equality marked progress in the national and worldwide LGBT movement, but it was not a finish line. Equality needs you now more than ever.

In 2016, we are making sure that some of the world’s largest and most visible LGBT events are helping to amplify our continued fight. EQUALITY NEEDS YOU, and you can answer the call.

I tried to get affordable housing in the East Village for extended Pride Weekend so I could easily go to 4 clubs but even one of my friends from there, could not recommend anything reasonable.MAYBE this year?I love taking the Greyhound bus or NJ transit but its staying someplace, that is hard.I'd rather spend my money shopping and clubbing, not all on a bed!

Story

The official creator and producer of the NYC LGBT Pride Week events
Introduction
Heritage of Pride is a wholly volunteer-managed non-partisan, tax-exempt, not-for-profit corporation that organizes Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Pride events in New York City to commemorate and celebrate the Stonewall riots. These Events are organized for and on behalf of all lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals and groups, and all others who support the struggle for the liberation of these communities. In the spirit of Stonewall, Heritage of Pride welcomes the participation of all, regardless of age, creed, gender, gender identification, HIV status, national origin, physical, mental or developmental ability, race, religion or sexual origin.

Founded in 1984, Heritage of Pride took over the planning New York City Pride events from the disbanded Christopher Street Liberation Day Committee, former organizers of the March and Rally, and the Christopher Street Festival Committee, the former organizers of the Festival. While HOP's individual members set broad group policy, the organization is governed by a 12 person Executive Board elected by its membership.

HOP is a founding member of the International Association of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Coordinators known as InterPride, a not-for-profit organization that provides support to over 180 groups that plan Pride events around the world. HOP is also a member of the following organizations:Northeast Regional Pride, NERP, an association of Pride committees in the Northeast United States; the International Lesbian and Gay Association, ILGA; the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, NGLTF; and the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association, IGLTA.
