I'm a Hawks Fan as well. Well, more a fan of #65 Andrew Shaw!! I've been his biggest fan since he was just 17, making his debut with the Niagara Ice Dogs. I said to my Dad after the 1st or 2nd time I watched him play, this kid's got TALENT! And PURE GRIT! He at that time was taking on the "big kids." Look at him now, taking on Chara! No one believed me. All thought I was crazy b/c he was "too small." He's proven that size doesn't matter.
And he's SO down to earth and personable! The Dogs played against Ottawa in Niagara Falls Memorial Arena just b4 they closed the doors for tear down. A memorial game. Well, he was tripped or something, went flying across the ice from just past the red line, on his side, slamming into the boards at the end. He had to be carried off. Looked like something broke in his foot or ankle. After the game, I had to take my son to Urgent Care as he was sick. I still had my jersey on from the game. When we went in to register, we saw him off to the left in a sort of separate waiting area in a wheelchair, with his trainer and someone else. We registered and went to the main waiting area. And my 3 oldest all play hockey (2 are girls). My son, now almost 14, was 6 at the time. All of a sudden I hear "Hey! So you were at the Dogs game today?" I look up from my phn (playing a game) and there's Shawzy! He sat and talked hockey with us, mostly my son, who was quite shy at that time, for like 15 mins. Then apologized b/c he had to get going. I found him on FB afterward and posted a pic and tagged him. He then added me. Still on my friends list. He still has not let his fame and $$ go to his head. I hope he never leaves Chicago.
