By Amanda Claire Curcio . . . Arkansas has about 15,800 registered sex offenders -- 526 offenders for every 100,000 residents -- the second-highest total in the country based on population, recent national research shows.

The manager of the state's sex-offender registry says the numbers are misleading.

"It's not like we have 16,000 sex offenders roaming loose around Arkansas," said Paula Stitz. "It's more like 9,000."   . . .

As of Aug.

Our September program, like last month’s popular program, also dealt with deregistration petitions and included an hour of Can They Do That? A third hour dealing with the pros and cons of negotiated pleas was scheduled but was cancelled due to technical difficulties. Expect to see this topic on a future show.

NARSOL was pleased to have two talented attorneys as guests on the call.

By Sandy . . . Multiple persons on the North Carolina sex offender registry were told that, if they needed to evacuate due to Hurricane Florence, they could not go to a shelter in a school or a church if it had a school or a daycare. Some were told they couldn’t go to any shelter that had children in it. Some of the prohibitions were accompanied by threats to be arrested if they attempted to enter such a shelter.

Tonight! A 3-hour NARSOL In Action conference call  begins at 7:00 p.m. eastern time. Each hour has a different topic, which means there is bound to be something interesting for everyone, so sign up now.

The first hour will be similar to last month’s popular program dealing with deregistration petitions. The second hour will be Can They Do That? The third hour will deal with the pros and cons of negotiated pleas. NARSOL is grateful to have two talented attorneys as guests for the call.

We have just received notice from a registrant in Brunswick Co., N.C. that he has been informed by his sheriff's office that if he seeks shelter, it cannot be a shelter in a private or public school or a church with a school or daycare. We have contacted the sheriff's dept. there to see if there is a list of places registrants can go. The officer said there were but could give me no names or locations. He referred me to their website, which had no information.

By Michael M . . . The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) ostensibly does good work. Their mission, according to their website, is to serve as a resource center for law enforcement, families and the public to help find missing children, reduce child sexual exploitation and prevent child victimization.

See this at the JLUSA website.

By Robin . . . I am the vice chair of the National Association for Rational Sexual Offense Laws (NARSOL) and the founder and president of Vivante Espero, the foundation that supports it.
Our main focus is on reforming the incredibly onerous and punitive sexual offender registry laws that exist throughout the country.

By ATSA The Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers is an international organization that stresses sound research and data-driven information in the prevention of sexual abuse.

Fact 1: There is no specific type of person who commits sexual abuse.

People who sexually abuse cross all socioeconomic, educational, gender, age, and cultural lines. There is no typical profile of someone who is likely to commit sexual abuse. However, the majority of adults who sexually offend are males.

By Amy Kaufman . . . Twentieth Century Fox was just days away from locking picture on “The Predator” when an urgent note came in: Delete the scene featuring Steven Wilder Striegel.

Striegel, 47, didn’t have a big role in his longtime friend Shane Black’s reboot of the sci-fi thriller — just a three-page scene shared with actress Olivia Munn.

By Grant Miller . . . Attorney Colleen Kelley was our special guest on our most recent NARSOL In Action held August 15th.
