It is all coming together.  The decking phase has been completed.  It is time to celebrate with a cold beverage while planning the handrail phase.

The handrail on my deck project is now complete.  I have a little more trim work and sealing to do and the deck project will be completely done.  I will post the step-by-step article on mycarpentry.com and publish the link soon.

Working on the decking (Western Red Cedar) phase of my weekend deck project.  I used 16 and 20 foot 2x6s to span the 34' section and 18 footers to span the front section.

Check out these new plans for building a cedar chest.  This is an easy project that can be built in less than an hour.  You can build it for next to nothing if you build it from old fence boards.  http://www.mycarpentry.com/cedar-chest-plans.html

This "rustic" bench was easy to build and you can modify the dimensions to suit your needs.  This bench was made entirely from old fence boards from my back fence.  http://www.mycarpentry.com/rustic-bench-plans.html.

Woodworking Projects using Basic Carpentry
Introduction
Hello,
mycarpentry.com contains free online tools and information for carpenters and woodworkers of all skill levels.
It contains several free plans for building picnic tables, home bars, patio furniture, benches, and much more...
For the deck builder, there is a complete tutorial on how to build a 10x10 deck, complete with footing, railing and stair details.
For the framing carpenter, there are several online calculators. The stair calculator and roof pitch calculator are very popular. There are also span tables to determine the sizes and lengths of joists and beams.
Carpentry and woodworking are valuable skills. Even if you are not in the construction business, you can save big bucks by understanding and doing small jobs yourself.
If you don't plan to do the work yourself, you will be more prepared when you are selecting contractors, if you educate yourself about the project in advance.
Have fun browsing this site. If you see something that you would like to have added to it, please let me know.
Thanks,
Matt
