Where are the Highlands of Scotland seems at first an easy question to answer. But it is really a two part question: where are the Highlands in terms of their geography – but also in a cultural sense.

To get round all of the Scottish islands could take you, uhmm, perhaps a lifetime. There are at least 700 of them, with 100 or so inhabited. (Yeah, that’s more than I thought there was as well!)

Facts about Scotland

On the subject of facts, about Scotland or otherwise, Robert Burns said, in his poem 'A Dream', that 'facts are chiels that winna ding.' It means something like: facts are men that cannot be overturned - that is, can be relied upon. Here are a few Scottish facts I've acquired over the years. I should point out there is one snippet in this list - just one - that I made up, just for fun. Oh, don't worry, I've flagged it up though, as folk had started to write to me about it...

The Hype of The Northern Lights

Ah yes, dripping with nostalgia, that snatch of the song ‘The Northern Lights’ is entirely appropriate for the phenomenon itself.
