I didn't know that ducks liked to hang-out on roofs, until I saw these 3 friends on the roof opposite my appt. in Berlin.

This is how we move through space.

What the solar system orbits (might) look like if you include the sun's motion. (gif)  What I found most interesting about sharing this gif is that most people were not aware that the sun MOVES THROUGH SPACE. Despite inaccuracies, if the uninitiated walked away with that much information, then I'm glad. For those of us who know better and recognize a few things are amiss,  +Philip Plait has done a great job straightening these out at his post: http://www.slate.com/blogs/bad_astronomy.html

If you think for a moment, you can understand that nothing "stands still" in the universe.  The motion of any body is relative to all others.  And that motion is virtually perpetual!

If a ball can roll on it, it must be real

(But if only a picture of a ball can roll on it...)

I can't find who created this image - can you?  I can find lots of copies using Google Image Search, but I haven't found the original.

I wanted to get away, and have quality time with myself. Moreover I wanted to start writing my book on the participatory nature of reality. So I remembered where I wanted to go: Riad AnaYela. I was taken care of like I was a king. The staff was not only "at my service" as one would expect from a good hotel, rather they went out of their way to make me feel comfortable every day. And I was not on your typical tourist program, only going out for 3-4 hours per day. So it really counted. After the royal breakfast I went to the roof and sat there writing for a few hours, getting the lovingly prepared mint tea served 2,3 times... as much as I liked. A real pleasure. One thing you notice when you spend so much time in an open, concentrated mood on the roof - you hardly hear any mechanical sound. Children at play, and an occasional dog. What you would have heard in all cities before the industrial revolution gave us a soundscape more fit for machines then man. I had most of my dinners at the Riad as well, and comparing the food with what I got in the restaurants in town, made me decide that. Delicious. So thank you all who made my stay there a most wonderful experience.

Hard to brush your teeth at the small sink in the bath. And the WiFi reminds me why we used to call the WWW "world wide wait". Other than that the rooms are clean, the mattresses are good standard, and room 216 was nice and quiet.
