BRANDIE MABEE TALKS WITH MUSCLEFOOD.CA

Protein is roughly 1g/lb/day, and stays around there all year. Over the years I’ve learned that I tolerate fats fairly well, so with the exception of the final 8 weeks of prep, they’re up around 60-80g daily. I’m very carb-sensitive so that’s usually the macro that gets tweaked the most during prep- it all just depends on how my body’s responding during any given prep.

EREN LEGEND IFBB PRO TALKS WITH MUSCLEFOOD.CA

The biggest challenge of being a Pro Athlete is being 100% Natural competing at an open level where there is no longer any drug testing. This, of course, is my personal choice and I have chosen to remain natural despite many others I compete with being enhanced athletes, it is a challenge for myself and it truly supports my message that if I can do it, and win shows others can achieve something of the same for themselves! It is truly a blessing as remaining natural has forced me to put more emphasis on Nutrition and understanding physiology! Through this, I was able to learn approaches that will help other individuals reach their goals!

MARIA SHARP IFBB PRO TALKS WITH MUSCLEFOOD.CA

Nutrition is a huge part of my life. All year round my diet is tight as I know the importance of keeping a clean diet to better your physique. My protein consists of fish, turkey, eggs, and ground beef. Carbs I like oats, brown rice cereal, sweet potatoes and white rice. I eat a lot of vegetables as well. Fats I tend to stick to flax oil and as most competitors that have a peanut butter problem I just keep that out of my house. I don’t believe in depriving yourself so in the offseason if I want something I tend to grab a handful of dark chocolate almonds as my treat. My reward meal is also once a week and my go to is a nice big burger with yam fries!
My pro card prep and now with my pro season approaching my goal is to stay as lean as I can and to stay in very good conditioning. I sprint almost 4-6 days a week and my weakest body part my legs, I plan to bring in the best ever come, my first pro show next year.

What is your approach to nutrition?

The success or failure of this approach will be greatly determined by my nutritional plan. I work on my contest diet with nutritionist IFBB Pro Lisa Giesbrecht. She customizes my macro and micro nutrients for both phases of training. During the offseason caloric intake is increased. We "clean bulk" with lean cuts off protein, complex carbohydrates and heart healthy fats. We always utilize single ingredient food items. Nothing that is processed is included in my nutritional plan. This approach to nutrition is a lifestyle. On season or off my macros are always accounted for and my diet is closely monitored. Offseason i will consume around 2800 calories per day. On season will start around 2000 and may be slowly decreased over a 16 week period.

How many calories do I consume and my progress:

Joseph helped me figure out my BMR and macro’s, and we ended up targeting around 2,500 calories a day, so I had a deficit and would start dropping body fat. I was dropping weekly, and about 8 weeks out from the competition, I did a BodyComp Imaging X-Ray to see where I was at. I still hadn’t registered or fully committed mentally to the Competition, so it was down to the wire. Since my last BodyScan 11 months earlier, I had dropped 4.7% bodyfat (9.9 LBS), and gained 7.4 LBS of lean muscle! To put it in context, the prior 12 months BodyComp Imaging showed that I had plateaued, with virtually no change despite working out religiously.

I've compared lots of meal prep companies, and Muscle Food is the best bang for your buck. The highest amount of protein and carbs per serving that I could find, at the most reasonable price. Definitely recommend!
