This week our twitter theme will be ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, inspired by the famous ice bucket challenge. We have found interesting research about this disease and the stories of people who suffer from ALS.

Under the old clinical model at HDC, many children and youth encountered barriers to access, navigation, and support. The new clinical model focuses on three core areas: 1) personalized care, 2) Integrated services, and 3) outcome-oriented evaluation. This animation illustrates the process which patients enter the care system, and how services will be personalized to each individual patients’ needs.

Approximately 300 million people worldwide are affected by asthma. Despite this prevalence, there are few educational tools which accurately depict the pathophysiology of asthma. The goal of this project was to develop a full-page editorial illustration to educate general audiences about the mechanisms and progression of asthma.

Diabetes is a prevalent condition that must be managed carefully. While visual tools in medical guidelines are effective for conveying clinical information, some traditional diagrams can be upgraded through applying information design principles. We collaborated with a knowledge transfer research team to seek alternative ways to present information regarding diabetes management.

We were approached by researchers from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute of the Rockefeller University to design a journal cover based on their innovative research. The challenge was creating an informative and eye-catching image that allowed for effective research dissemination.
