This breaks down a bunch of the tricks that fad diets use to scare you. (Usually so you will buy their book.)

Rub broccoli on rats and they get cancer! DO NOT EAT IT, especially organic broccoli.
And just when you thought that hardly any food could beat the broccoli health benefits, you learn that actually, no, broccoli is bad for you. Don't eat it!

I really hate the "we must present alternate opinions as if they are equally valid" thing that the news does ALL THE TIME.

When it's not "Your Opinion" -- you're just wrong. http://www.houstonpress.com/…/no-it-s-not-your-opinion-you-…
"you can form an opinion in a bubble, and for the first couple of decades of our lives we all do. However, eventually you are going to venture out into the world and find that what you thought was an informed opinion was actually just a tiny thought based on little data and your feelings. Many, many, many of your opinions will turn out to be uninformed or just flat out wrong. No, the fact that you believed it doesn’t make it any more valid or worthwhile, and nobody owes your viewpoint any respect simply because it is yours."
"You can be wrong or ignorant. It will happen. Reality does not care about your feelings. Education does not exist to persecute you. The misinformed are not an ethnic minority being oppressed."

This is why I hate BBC news also, people praise it all the time but they are the worst fucking offenders.

Yep, and that half-degree drop will be used as an excuse that global warming isn't happening after all, so that when the sun's activity returns to "normal", the temperature will shoot up like a bottle rocket.

Wooooooowe'refucked.

Pretty much been geeking out the past month or so about #Pluto and now it's only a few days from the flyby!

Interesting! I know that the pressure of a hard deadline gets me working, but I also feel now, as opposed to when I was in school, that I would rather be over-prepared than under. This means I do delay a bit, but also start sooner than the last minute so that I can make something awesome rather than merely acceptable.

On one hand, I hate this "swatting" trend that people online use to terrorize those they don't like on the internet with real life repercussions. On the other hand... "literally."
A local family got an unexpected visit Saturday from members of the SWAT team in Catawba County.

You'd think someone on the SWAT team would have a phone.  Maybe set up outside, call the house, start hostage negotiations before actually breaking in with their guns out.

I honestly really didn't have a desire to visit Japan until this.
There's a wonderful, little place in Japan called Zao Fox Village. Opened in 1990, this fox sanctuary is home to over 200 wild foxes.

I don't care what your political leanings are, this is scary and corrupt! The people have a right to know what elected officials do while in office, especially when it is if they are doing the job you elected then to do.
A bill to hide government actions both large and small from public scrutiny is quietly making its way through the Wisconsin legislature.

Can't wait until Scott Walker just starts disappearing his enemies and referring to himself as "Generalissimo".

At first glance this tattoo parlor seemed warm and inviting, this experience continued throughout the whole visit. I'm glad to say that everyone was very professional and friendly, everything was properly sterilized and in proper packaging i have to say the only bad thing about this was when i almost fainted, even then i was accommodated with water and candy promptly. If you or your child wants to get a piercing i definitely recommend Paris Tattoos

Best dentist I've ever had! The office is beautiful, clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly, careful and courteous. They explain things very well, including things that I've never had explained before. They have new equipment like digital x-rays for lower doses of radiation than standard x-rays. They do orthodontics as well and my daughter's teeth went from crooked to straight in just a year. They will work with you for a payment plan on the braces. I had a filling done there and doctor Olsen was super gentle. Great experience!
