So it's Cinco De Mayo. Mobilegeddon has come and gone. Did your web traffic suffer? According to Google there has been less than a 5% uptick in mobile friendly websites. In Google speak they are implying that the results may not have reached the level of hype out there.

The problem is, 5% may seem low. Then again, your website doesn't competed with the billions of pages online. While we are still digging deep into analytics of it all, we are finding in correlations between lower traffic and non mobile friendly sites. However, as they say correlation is not causation. We suspect this effect will vary greatly across search segments.

Our sister company +CTC local is responding with it depends on a number of factors. They also say it's possible to self evaluate the effects of moblegeddon by asking your self some basic marketing strategy questions.

Some industries like entertainment venues such as movies and restaurants may be higher. Also emergency industries like plumbers, lawyers and dentist tend to get higher mobile searches where a solution is needed from anywhere on the spot. then there's hospitality and travel service industries like gas stations and hotels that may also find people on the road with only a mobile device.  However, there are also some industries that are not as affected. For example, we are not seeing much change on industrial industries like structural engineering, manufacturing, and etc.

Finally, remember technology is always changing. it's best to change with the times however, google still needs to provide search results with relevant results. Just because a site is mobile friendly doesn't mean you will get pushed out of the way if your content is deemed more relevant to the end user. So do change, but change in a smart calculated way. Do NOT let the hype of articles or cheap sales people try and scare you to change. Mobilegeddon started on April 21st, but but it's going to take some time for google to fully implement the changes. That will also depend on the speed at which website owners change.
